Leicester 1-1 Tottenham: Jamie Vardy, who else? – catches the Spurs point

The second year of the Angel Postecoglou era got off to a decidedly disappointing start as Spurs drew 1-1 with newly promoted Leicester City, promoted by Steve Cooper, at the King Power Stadium on Monday.

Spurs led at half-time thanks to Pedro Porro, but only by one point despite Leicester’s attempt to make it 10-1.

The Foxes then scored on their first shot on goal when Jamie Vardy headed Abdul Fatawhu’s cross past Guglielmo Vicario, and Leicester hesitated to chase a second goal.

Mads Hermansen’s five saves were enough to earn a point, as neither team produced too many truly damaging chances.

“When we’re so dominant, we’re out of sight,” Tottenham manager Angel Postecoglou said after his side controlled a game at the King Power Stadium but ended up holding on for a point at the end against a Leicester side that is unlikely to be able to do so. Do a lot. season.

Tottenham were great for most of the game, but went dark for a while and struggled against a newly promoted team. This no-nonsense top four race deserves to be a monumental fight this season, and wasting things in certain situations will never be a good idea (not that wasting things is a good idea, but we digress).

Spurs will score goals. Heung-min Son will finish. Dominic Solanke will finish. James Maddison will have plenty of assist-worthy plays, such as his cross for Porro’s goal. But they will have to temporarily recover their ruthless streak and Postecoglou knows it.

“We do everything we can to score goals and we don’t score them,” he said. “Domination is wonderful, but if you don’t score it doesn’t make sense. We want to be more powerful in our mentality in the first third. It’s disappointing to waste so much tonight. We just weren’t clinical.

“It is not our football or our effort. To achieve effects you have to be much more ruthless in the final third. If we don’t do it, we may not get the benefits that our football gets. The duty is mine. That’s why you train.

Herguysen was very clever and Wilfred Ndidi teamed up through former Spurs player Harry Winks to make the midfield a no-fly zone. Ndidi also came close to finding a late winner for the Foxes. Spurs went to great lengths to score, and that’s why you see a sea of green in their Fotmob player ratings despite the disappointing result. Functionality was up to par in all the spaces and finishing touches.

Pedro Porro (29′); Jamie Vardy (58′)

Cameras capture Jamie Vardy showing the Premier League crest on his arm and indicating that he won a name opposite to 0 for a Spurs player.

Cristian Romero seems most animated in reply, so perhaps it was the center back.

The intransigent Spurs midfielder is left lying down after a collision in the 77th minute.

Jamie Vardy deserves to have the Foxes almost inexplicably in front as Guglielmo Vicario denied him in a close squeeze.

He also missed his shot on occasion.

Jamie Vardy at the far post to put the Foxes’ first shot on target into the back of the net!

Porro’s goal was the only one, but Spurs dominated the game at King Power Stadium.

Tottenham hit 10 of 11 shots in attack and the 73% ownership figure says it all. Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen makes 3 saves.

Leicester are at fault and are doing everything they can to disturb, but they don’t seem to be able to create any genuine danger.

Good plays by James Maddison and Pedro Porro, the latter burst from the area to head home after a cross from the former.

Spurs have the first 4 shot attempts of the match, Cristian Romero’s last header just wide of the post.

Leicester have avoided conceding a poor gift from James Justin, but the Foxes otherwise looked alert with their few passes on the ball.

There is no doubt that Spurs will score a lot of goals this season, just as there is no doubt that they will also concede several. Add to that the nerves of opening day and the prime-time start of Monday afternoon, and you’ve got Maybe It’s Just Fireworks. Leicester 2-3 Tottenham.
