LEIPZIG, Germany (AP) – Leipzig on Tuesday ceded to Manchester City Angelio’s defence for one season after playing a leading role in the German club’s race to the Champions League semi-finals.
The agreement includes an option to buy the Spanish left as a component of a contract until 2025, Leipzig said in a statement.
City first signed Angelio when he was a young player in 2013 and sold it to PSV Eindhoven in 2018, but a year later bought him a clause in the contract.
He scored five goals in 18 games for Leipzig last season, contributing to the goal of Tyler Adams’ victory when Leipzig beat Atletico Madrid 2–1 in the champions’ quarter-finals last month. He also made six Premier League appearances for City. in last season’s first game.
Also on Tuesday, Leipzig recruited 18-year-old midfielder Lazar Samardzic of Hertha Berlin.
Bayer Leverkusen has hired Czech striker Patrik Schick of Roma after scoring 10 goals in 22 Bundesliga games on loan in Leipzig last season. Schick has signed a contract until 2025, Leverkusen said.
The striker arrives after Leverkusen sold Kai Havertz to Chelsea and Kevin Volland to Monaco last week.
