Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski believes he would deserve the Ballon d’Or if the prize had been cancelled by 2020.
France Football demonstrated in July that the award would be awarded due to the 2019-20 season disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lewandowski would almost have been a favourite for the men’s trophy this year, having scored 55 goals in all competitions to propel Bayern to a hat-trick of Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League titles so far.
The 32-year-old insists that the Ballon d’Or has never been in his head this quarter, he believes he would have been a worthy winner.
“I didn’t think about it at all. He knew we still had the Champions League, then the Bundesliga resumed after the short break,” he told Onet and Przeglad Sportowy when asked his opinion on the cancellation of the prize.
“I knew my priorities. I’m in the Champions League, not individual awards. The resolution to cancel the gala taken in mid-year and the Ballon d’Or that will take place in December.Array The too distant time to occupy my mind.”
When asked which player would have awarded the prize, he replied: “I myself. We win every single thing to win.I won the prize for the most sensible scorer in each and every competition.I think a player who does it would win.”
Bayern’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain saw Lewandowski win the Champions League for the first time in his career, which he admitted as a dream of formative years.
The Polish foreigner was very excited about the post-match talks, but said the moment that really touched him was when his wife sent him videos of members of the circle of relatives reacting to the outcome.
“So far I’ve hidden my feelings in a thick shell, yet the Champions League is the dream of each and every footballer and I’ve believed all my life that I can do it,” he said.
“I was close several times, however, something was missing, anything was causing us to eliminate early. Now that we had earned it, there was a childish joy, anything herbal and spontaneous. I did not know.
“The most productive moment after the game was when I called my wife. She sent me videos of my joys crying with happiness. It was incredible. This is what I will do the most after many years. “
Although he has no plans to retire soon, one of Lewandowski’s remaining goals is to please the Polish enthusiasts on stage.
“One of my dreams has now come true and I feel immense satisfaction,” he added.”Another is to make national team enthusiasts proud of us.What exactly does that mean? I can’t answer that. I can’t describe it.”that; I just need enthusiasts to feel satisfied to cheer us up.”
