BERLIN (AP) – Robert Lewandowski scored a hat trick for Bayern Munich to continue where he left off in the Bundesliga with a 5-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
The Polish star failed to score in Bayern’s 4-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in his first Champions League match on Wednesday and obviously felt the need to redeem himself by taking his account to 10 goals in five Bundesliga matches.
Bayern suffered an early time with Alphonso Davies injured his ankle in the 3rd minute and Lucas Hernandez replaced the 19-year-old Canadian.
Lewandowski’s exhibition began soon after, the striker left in too much area and broke the impasse in the 10th, then hit his moment with an internal headbutt to the left post from a corner in the 25th, and finished his hat trick in the 61st.
After his task, Lewandowski returned at 68 when Bayern manager Hansi Flick made three adjustments at a time.
Leroy Sané came in for his return from injury and scored a chance for a good goal at the time after five minutes later, and Jamal Musiala, 17, closed the scoring at the last minute.
LEIPZIG STAYS ON TOP
Marcel Sabitzer’s overdue penalty was enough for Leipzig to stay at the top of the league with a 2–1 win over Hertha Berlin.
Jhon Córdoba returned Hertha to the lead, but Dayot Upamecano showed perseverance in providing a quick response.
Hertha took Deyovaisio Zeefuik to halftime. The Dutch defender anatoished almost without delay and expelled with his yellow card moment at 50.
Cordoba awarded the penalty for foul by Willi Orban and Sabitzer fit in at 77.
Leipzig remained one point ahead of Bayern after matches.
HELP FROM THE CORNER FLAG
Hertha’s rival, Union Berlin, had to settle for a 1–1 draw with Freiburg.
The corner pennant kept the ball in play for Freiburg and Vincenzo Grifo closed his shot at the time of the post at 34, but Union counterattacked with a deviant shot from Robert Andrich two minutes later.
Borussia Monchengladbach returned to beat Mainz 3–2.
Borussia Dortmund then received Schalke for the Ruhr derby.
