Newey, who no longer works in Red Bull’s day-to-day F1 operations and works alongside technical director Pierre Wache to oversee projects, was absent from the Australian Grand Prix and fuelled speculations about a move elsewhere.
Having been available in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Newey’s absence was reportedly planned and reports of a replacement in the post were downplayed. He will return to the paddock as planned at Suzuka next weekend.
At the Japanese Grand Prix, Newey will be close to a disgruntled Hamilton at Mercedes. An eighth-place finish would be the best end to an F1 career and he was told that Newey was the man who would help achieve that at Ferrari.
