There’s a new king in town when it comes to Charlotte FC after Liel Abada was crowned after her first goal in the United States.
The winger joined Celtic on a £10m contract last month and has been touted as a box office addition with the North Carolina side scrambling to make him one of their designated players. He gradually improved, coming off the bench against Cincinatti before betting an hour opposite to the New England Revolution last week.
But he officially announced his arrival to his MLS legions on Saturday night as he raced to score his first goal. There was a typical American brass band with great pyrotechnics as a goal, they sealed a 3-2 victory and were unbeaten in thirteen home games. And after the game, it was Abada in the middle of the celebrations.
Charlotte, nicknamed “The Crown,” treats her Man of the Match at home games with pomp and ritual and it was Abada who earned the plaudits this time. Surrounded by his teammates, he sat on a throne and was crowned king. In a touching clip shared on Charlotte’s social media, you can see Deputy Principal Pa-Modou Kah’s reaction to Abada’s performance.
