England defender Niamh Charles has signed a contract extension with Chelsea.
The 24-year-old only agreed to her previous contract before last season, but after a good year and an impressive start to 2023-24, she has extended her stay again.
The new contract now ties her down until 2027. Here’s Charles:
? “I’m satisfied and grateful. I had some smart years here. I’ve evolved a lot and I’m looking ahead to the long term and what the next few years will bring. “
Chief Executive Paul Green added:
? “Niamh’s performances have been remarkable and have made her a normal foreign starter over the past 12 months. We are delighted with how she has grown and to be a leader within the group. We look forward to seeing its continued expansion in the coming years. “»

South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu will be out for the remainder of the Asian Cup due to a knee injury.
Kim, 33, played in his side’s 3-1 win over Bahrain in their group-stage opener but tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during a training session later in the week. Here’s South Korea boss Jurgen Klinsmann:
? “We’re very unhappy about Seung-gyu’s injury, but it’s part of the sport, it happens in tournaments, but we have to move on. We keep it in our minds and fight for it.
“What I told the team is that we are here and that we have a mission, which is to stay until the end of the tournament. “
South Korea is aiming to win its first Asian Cup in years. They will face Jordan on Saturday.

There have been strong reports that West Ham have made progress in their attempts to loan Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Well, Hammers boss David Moyes is due to speak to the media at 1.3pm (GMT) and you imagine it will be one of the first questions that gets asked. We’ll see if he bites – and bring you those quotes as soon as they materialise.
They’re not the only ones who need to warn Phillips. De fact, it looks like a small queue.

Jordan Henderson may simply be the representative of the city of Amsterdam after his departure from Al Ettifaq, but the England midfielder will probably have to wait before moving to Ajax.
Henderson is now a non-EU citizen since the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union in 2020 and as such will need a painting permit before he can play for his new Dutch club.
There would have been no documents delaying his debut before Brexit, which ended the freedom of movement of British citizens, and Henderson is expected to be cleared in time for Sunday afternoon’s Eredivisie match against RKC Waalwijk at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Next Saturday’s match against Heracles is the most likely target for the 33-year-old. Otherwise, it would be PSV Eindhoven’s stopover on Saturday, February 3.
Chuba Akpom, who joined Ajax from Middlesbrough for £11m in August, faced delays when he had to wait before making his first appearance.

It’s been the U-turn of the January window so far: Jordan Henderson finding a way out of Saudi Arabia and signing for Ajax.
Many were content to hand over to Henderson because his summer resolution failed, but his former Liverpool boss believes the complaint would be unfair.
Here’s what Jurgen Klopp had to say this morning, when my colleague James Pearce asked him:
? “We have a life and we have to make choices. Sometimes our decisions are better at first and look different once you make them.
“I spoke to him and 99 per cent of what happened football-wise there was absolutely fine. It was the start of something with many things to develop in the future. He was never critical.
“But then he thought it was better for him and his family to return to Europe and now he is at Ajax Amsterdam, a sensational club that is in a difficult moment. “

Huddersfield Town have announced the signing of striker Rhys Healey from league rivals Watford.
The deal should have been reached for around £2 million.
Healey, 29, joined Watford as a free agent from Toulouse six months ago, signing a two-year contract with the option of a third. He has scored two goals and assisted in all thirteen of his appearances for Watford this season. .
Watford are now on the hunt for a striker this month.
Watford will face Bristol City tomorrow, while Huddersfield will face Blackburn.

Now, this can be a big problem. . . My colleagues Raphael Honigstein and Chris Waugh have revealed that Bayern Munich will sign Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier in January.
The German champions are prioritising the signing of a right-back this month, and the Englishman is one of several players being considered.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele, who has already spent four years in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, was also on Bayern’s shortlist, but negotiations proved difficult.
To be vigilant, that. You can read more about this below.

Manchester United defender Will Fish, recently on loan at Hibernian, is attracting a number of clubs.
The 20-year-old centre-back came through the club’s academy and has impressed this season, making 28 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side including five in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
The fish will remain in Hibernian for the remainder of the season. However, clubs adding the Cardiff Championship seem interested in signing him permanently this summer.
The defender, who has been loaned out at Stockport, will expire his contract with United this summer.
Fish scored a goal and helped this season, helping his team finish in sixth place in the Scottish Premiership.

Here we go, then. Arguably the most anticipated quotes of the day right here – even if there’s clearly a limited amount to be said just yet.
Mo Salah was injured during the first half of Egypt’s 2-2 draw at the Africa Cup of Nations with what appeared to be a sore hamstring.
Here’s what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had to say this morning about the 31-year-old’s fitness:
? “We don’t know anything. I spoke to him last night. They are doing additional testing and we will know more about them later.
“It was a shock at the time. He felt it and we all know that Mo rarely wants to go, so there’s definitely something going on. I don’t have any more details at the moment.

Tomorrow will be a day for Ivan Toney.
The striker will not only return to action after serving his eight-month suspension for 232 breaches of FA rules. His Brentford head coach, Thomas Frank, showed that he was going to start and wear the captain’s armband.
It will be at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday at 5:30 p. m.
The 27-year-old English foreigner is also likely to feature as a subject in the January moving window, however, Frank said this morning that Brentford are yet to receive an offer for Toney this month. I have contributed to that.
You can find out more about all of this from our Brentford correspondent, Jay Harris.

Nuno Espirito Santo says the January window will pose a “tough” challenge for Nottingham Forest.
The head coach believes the window will pose the same problems for every Premier League club, but still hopes Forest will be able to add strength and balance to the squad he inherited a month ago. Speaking this morning, Nuno said:
? “It’s very difficult. You have to realise this is a difficult window to operate in because normally the targets you really want are not available.
“It happens in each and every club; Available players are players who are not in a satisfied moment they are in. It happens to us too, hypotheses that our team leaves because they are not satisfied here or safe cases arise.
“We have to be very careful. What you need isn’t what you get.
Forest walked cautiously to the window. They have some leeway and expect to make two or three signings, but they also want the players to leave to end the month on a balanced footing and show the Premier League that they are serious about those benefits and sustainability charges.
But with six players called up for the Africa Cup of Nations and at least five out injured, Nuno is keen to strengthen:
? “We have to balance the squad due to the absences and the numbers in the squad. This is the work we are doing.”

Wolves outcast Gonçalo Guedes will swap Benfica for Villarreal after agreeing to return to Spain on loan.
The winger, who cost Wolves £28million when he signed from Valencia in the summer of 2022, returned to former club Benfica in January 2023 after failing to settle in the Premier League.
He returned to the Portuguese side for a second loan last summer but was frustrated by the lack of time to play.
His move to Villarreal, 15th in La Liga, comes with characteristics or purchase obligations and requires a loan fee, but the Spanish side will cover the 27-year-old’s entire salary.

Adam Lallana will know at the end of the season if he needs to continue his playing career at Brighton.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder has played more than an hour in a game since September in 17 appearances this season in all competitions (including 8 starts) due to minor injuries.
Lallana, 35, told the club’s website:
? “First I’ll get to the end of the season and see what happens. I don’t know if this will be my last year playing, but it’s a verbal exchange later in the season. “
The Athletic revealed in October Brighton’s plans to retain Lallana in a training position when his playing days are over.
He has trained in educational sessions with Brighton’s first team and under-21s and England’s under-21s during the current campaign, encouraged by the club’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi. Here’s more from Lallana:
? “I’m still not 100 percent sure I have to. But I’d be stupid if I didn’t give it a chance, considering I’ve spent the last 15 years as a footballer. Especially the way I’ve been in the box for the last five, six, seven years.
“I’ve tried to help my teammates. It probably started at Liverpool, when I had a lot of injuries. You started to see the game differently. “

Adam Forshaw is closing in on a permanent move to Plymouth Argyle from Norwich City.
A deal has not yet been reached or closed, the 32-year-old midfielder is in talks with the Championship Club.
Forshaw joined Norwich from Leeds United in an informal move last summer but has made two league starts this season.
He has been in the league since being substituted at half-time in a 3-1 loss to Swansea City on Oct. 28, and was absent from the final five groups of the championship round.
Forshaw has six months left on his contract at Norwich.
Should Forshaw sign he would be their fifth addition in this window, following the acquisitions of Ashley Phillips, Alfie Devine (both Spurs) and Darko Gyabi (Leeds) on loan, and free signing Matty Sorinola.
They update 4 loanees called up to their parent clubs this month: Finn Azaz (Aston Villa, who later sold to Middlesbrough), Kaine Kesler-Hayden (Villa), Luke Cundle (Wolves) and Lewis Warrington (Everton).
