Liverpool have shown the appointment of former Everton star John Heitinga to the club’s coaching staff.
The Dutchman had already shown in the past that he was in talks with the Reds about a move to Anfield. Quoted by De Telegraaf, he said: “I am in talks with Liverpool. The only thing I can say now is that they have approached me and that my agent Rob Jansen and I are in talks. “
And that resolution is now finalized with Liverpool announcing the arrival of Heitinga on Wednesday, who has claimed the role of assistant coach at Anfield.
The move sees the Dutchman return to Merseyside after a successful spell with the Reds’ local rivals Everton. The 40-year-old moved to Goodison Park in 2009 from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
He then made 140 appearances for the club and won the Player of the Year award in the 2011/12 season. Heitinga left for Fulham in 2014 and played for Hertha Berlin and Ajax.
The former defender then began his coaching career at the Dutch giants. He took charge of the reserve team before being appointed first-team coach in January 2023.
Since then, Heitinga has spent time with West Ham as part of David Moyes’ coaching staff at the London Stadium. He will now work with Liverpool’s new club, which has Arne Slot’s latest addition to the team.
The Dutchman has already supervised the movements of Fabian Otte, Aaron Briggs, Sipke Hulshoff and Claudio Taffarel. Liverpool are at the last minute of the new campaign.
