Liverpool have signed Ryan Gravenberch with a £34 million contract with Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old Dutchman raises the Reds’ summer spending to around £145m, which has been loyal exclusively to midfield signings.
To refresh an aging and injury-prone team in the middle of the park, former Ajax player Gravenberch joins RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister at the door.
Jurgen Klopp also netted Waturu Endo for £16. 2m from Stuttgart, with the 30-year-old Japanese foreigner being his specialist defensive midfielder.
Speaking of his joy, Gravenberch said on the club’s website: “I am very satisfied. I am very pleased that the agreement has been reached and that I am here in spite of everything.
“If you look at it from the outside, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything, from the outside, is excellent. That’s why [it’s the right club]. “
He added: “I’m looking for Anfield and can’t wait to hear the song You’ll Never Walk Alone.
“Now we are from scratch, a new beginning and I will give everything for this Club. [My ambitions are] to win awards. Winning prizes, playing a lot and showing them who we are and who I am.
Gravenberch became known through the Reds on social media with a photo of him taking a selfie on an exercise bike, reminiscent of a symbol of him with the Liverpool shirt from years ago.
In the number 38 shirt, Gravenberch joins his third club in just over a year after his £16 million transfer from Ajax to Bayern last summer didn’t work out.
