Liverpool have announced the appointment of Jorg Schmadtke as new director
Schmadtke will succeed Julian Ward. Il was sporting director at Wolfsburg, 1. FC Koln and Hannover 96 during his time in Germany.
The 59-year-old retired earlier this year, but running at Liverpool has brought him back into the world of football.
The Düsseldorf-born director stands out for his sense of talent. Schmadtke is instrumental in identifying promising players.
His very good discoveries in his tenure at Wolfsburg come with Maxence Lacroix, Micky van de Ven and Ridle Baku.
His ability to spot and nurture potential stars will take advantage of Liverpool’s recruitment strategy.
However, it should be noted that Schmadtke has not been without controversy. He had a history of fighting with managers.
In Wolfsburg, his war of words with Oliver Glasner led to the departure of the coach.
Glasner then joined Eintracht Frankfurt and achieved good fortune by winning the Europa League in his first season.
Fenway Sports Group chairman Mike Gordon said (via Liverpool’s official website): “First of all, I would like to welcome Jorg to Liverpool Football Club knowing that he will bring great wisdom and delight in a role where such qualities will benefit him. to us.
“Jorg will work with our football operations branch as he continues to supply Jurgen Klopp, in line with our continued efforts to further grow and expand the club in all areas.
“As we welcome Jorg, we will also have to bid farewell to Julian Ward, who has served us with unwavering diligence, courage and power in a number of roles, most recently as sporting director.
“We wish Julian and his young circle of family the most productive in the long term and thank him for all he has done for Liverpool FC over the past 11 years. “
