LIVERPOOL have become a “serious candidate” to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The 25-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract in the French capital.
Mbappe has a player option to extend his contract for a further 12 months; Last summer he wrote to the club’s bosses to tell them he had “no intention” of doing so.
The striker then went into exile from PSG’s pre-season tour, with the Ligue 1 champions even accepting a record £259m offer from Al-Hilal for their star man.
After refusing to sign for Saudi Arabia, Mbappe returned to PSG’s first team and has been in top form ever since.
His future remains in the balance, with Liverpool and Real Madrid both showing “credible” interest in signing him.
According to Le Parisien, the Reds are putting PSG’s hopes of convincing Mbappe to stay at risk.
Jurgen Klopp has long been a huge fan of the French superstar, with Liverpool having reportedly dreamed of signing him for nine years.
The Reds’ long-term admiration hasn’t gone unnoticed by Mbappe, who could be intrigued by a move to Anfield.
Kop chiefs would love to sign him in a bid to consistently compete with Manchester City.
And with Mohamed Salah attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, Mbappe could even upgrade the Egyptian in the long term.
For a long time it was thought that Real Madrid had the command to sign Mbappe.
But the most recent reports suggest that he was not inspired by the “tough tactics” of the Spanish side in the negotiations.
It’s possible that Mbappe will simply turn his position around last summer and grow at PSG.
It’s claimed that he would struggle to find conditions as “tailor-made” for him at other potential suitors as they are at Parc des Princes.
Mbappé has scored 18 goals in 16 Ligue 1 games this season.
He has also added a further three in the Champions League.
