A Liverpool fan claimed he would see his wife leave him than Jurgen Klopp, leaving talkSPORT duo Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent laughing out loud.
Klopp announced he will be stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season after more than eight years in charge on Friday. Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans are shocked at the news of his impending departure and one supporter named Steen rang into talkSPORT to share his reaction with presenter Goldstein and former Premier League striker Bent.
“I’m overwhelmed,” he said. Absolutely distraught. A friend of mine, who is a Man United fan, called me and gave me the news while singing the song ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and laughing out loud.
“I thought it was an April Fool’s joke or something, you know?I’m a manager and a lot of my guys are Man United, Arsenal or Spurs enthusiasts and they were in detail all day and I couldn’t concentrate. “I wish it had been my wife who had left me and not Jurgen!” »
Both Goldstein and Bent were speechless at Steen’s comments, who later doubled down when asked if he had told his wife.
“No, maybe not,” he replied. But honestly, I wish it was my wife who left me and not Jurgen because of what she did for Liverpool, honestly.
“It’s not just because he’s a tactical genius, it’s all of the young players he’s bringing through – he’s our Fergie [Sir Alex Ferguson], which is the biggest compliment you can pay him. He spent 25 years with your lot, Andy, and you know how you felt when he left.
“It’s a shame that [Manchester] City have been so successful because Jurgen may not have done everything they could have done. “
Explaining his decision to resign, Klopp admitted he “lacked energy” to carry out the task.
“I surely love everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our fans, I love the team, I love the staff,” he told the club’s media. “I love everything. But the fact that I make this resolution shows you that I am convinced that this is the one I have to make.
“It’s just that I’m running out, how to put it, energy. Now I don’t have any disorders, obviously, I’ve known about it for a long time and at some point I’d have to announce it, but I’m still completely fine now. I know I can’t do this task over and over again. “
