In an announcement that is likely to please many Liverpool fans, as well as those of the other three clubs involved, the EFL has shown that VAR will not be used for the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
The Reds take on Fulham in the last four of the competition, with the first leg taking place at Anfield on Wednesday night and the return a fortnight later, while Middlesbrough and Chelsea meet to decide the other place in the final at Wembley next month.
Since the Teesside club has been in the league since 2017/18 and therefore has no VAR, the generation will not be used at all at this stage of the competition, to ensure some uniformity in the 4 semi-finals. -Finals. -Final matches.
As explained on the EFL’s official website: “As the formula is not installed in any of the participating semi-finalist clubs and for fairness and consistency, VAR generation will not be used in the Carabao Cup semi-final this season.
“This coincides with past rounds of this season’s competition, when on some, but not all, pitches, VAR was available. VAR is installed at Wembley Stadium and, in line with our previous commitment, will be used in the final in February.

The absence of VAR for the Carabao Cup semi-finals is likely to be welcomed by Liverpool supporters, given the Reds’ delight with the formula this season.
No LFC fan will soon remember the events of September 30, 2023, when a ridiculous miscommunication between those responsible for leading the generation led to a perfectly valid goal by Luis Diaz in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham being disallowed.
The Reds also had two smart goals sent off in the Boxing Day win at Burnley recently, with Harvey Elliott’s disallowed shot being infuriating when Mo Salah went into an offside position, something VAR officials failed to react to.
Some FA Cup third-round matches this weekend passed peacefully without the present generation, and the overall verdict was that it was comforting to watch the games without the interference of a formula that was meant to lessen refereeing disputes in England, but which did. Polar opposite.
