Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is the overwhelming favourite to renew Jurgen Klopp as the club’s manager at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has insisted that Xabi Alonso will remain at his club at least until his contract expires in 2026, despite interest from Liverpool.
Alonso was temporarily installed as the favourite to upgrade Jurgen Klopp when the German announced he would leave Anfield at the end of the season. After hearing the news of Klopp’s never-ending departure, many fans subsidized Alonso for the job.
The 42-year-old has shone in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen this season. Surprisingly, Alonso’s side have yet to taste defeat in the German top flight and look set to end Bayern Munich’s monopoly in the division.

Reports recommend that Alonso would be open to returning to Anfield at the end of the campaign, but as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Carro is of the opinion that his manager will remain at the club.
He said: “Xabi Alonso has a contract until 2026 and there is no reason to doubt that he will stay here. In football you never know what’s going to happen, but I’m very confident, we have an intelligent relationship. “
Alonso is by no means the manager who has been linked to this lucrative job. Roberto De Zerbi de Brighton
