Liverpool ‘interested in £79m striker’ as Darwin Nunez closes in on exit

Arne Slot’s patience with Darwin Nunez, who missed his shot, appears to be wearing thin, with Liverpool now linked with a £79m striker. The Uruguayan has scored just four goals in 23 club appearances this season and is fighting for a regular starting position for his Dutch coach.

Although he received praise for the rhythm and movement of his paintings, Núñez received strong complaints for his lack of ability to complete them.

Since arriving at Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2022, he has scored 27 goals in 118 games, which led to hypotheses about an exit in January or next summer.

And the rumours will most likely be further accentuated with Sky Germany reporting that the Reds are chasing Randal Kolo Muani. The 26-year-old is also struggling to get back into form since his £79m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in September 2023, and the Ligue 1 champions are now set to get it done on a loan-to-own deal.

This would suit Liverpool, who have reportedly expressed interest. This would allow Slot to join his team during the second part of the season as his team looks to maintain its momentum in the race for the name.

It would also give them the opportunity to sell Nunez, who reportedly earns a salary of £140,000 a week. The 25-year-old is also under contract until 2028, meaning he should still receive a significant payment to help fund Kolo Muani’s move.

The French international, who is also linked with RB Leipzig, scored nine goals for the Parisians following his signing last season. But this time, he has only scored two goals and only one assist in 10 appearances, and coach Luis Enrique has noticed quite a bit.

Coming to Liverpool would also give him the chance to rewrite the narrative of his career. Kolo Mani’s career is still marked by his last failure in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, when his country was stuck at 3-3 against Argentina.

The Nantes product scored without fail, but said goodbye thanks to a very good save from the legs of Emiliano Martínez. She was later introduced as the “save of the century,” and Kolo Muani later opened up about her heartbreaking moment.

“I may have just thrown it, I may have given the ball to Kylian Mbappe, but at this moment I didn’t see it,” he said. “Later, when you see the video, you see that there were other options, but it’s too late, you can’t do anything. I still have it in my throat and it will be there for life.

Despite his very good form since Slot’s arrival, Liverpool have struggled to find a ‘9’ in his place, with Mo Salah preferring a wide role. Diogo Jota has also been plagued by injury problems.
