Liverpool made his first signing of the summer movement window on Monday by bringing Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos for a long-term contract. The 24-year-old left-back played 46 games for Olympiacos in all competitions last season and won his Greek Super League title.
The main financial points were given, but british media reported that Liverpool had paid around 12 million euros for Tsimikas, which has 3 matches with Greece since its deyet abroad in October 2018.
“I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here. For me, Liverpool is the biggest club in the world. It’s an honor to be here and I’ll do my best,” Tsmikas told the club’s website. “The league here, I really like it. I see it on TV and it was a dream I had when I was a kid, come and play in this league and succeed. With a lot of pictures and focus on what I do and what I do. the coach needs, and every day running hard in training, I can be at the highest level. I need it to achieve our goals. Win the championship and win the Champions League.”
Liverpool won the European elite club festival in 2019, but was eliminated via Atletico Madrid in the last 16 stages in March.
Tsimikas, who has been loaned to Danish side Esjberg and Dutch aspect Willem II, enjoys the Champions League and is expected to provide protection to left-back Andy Robertson, his only left grass-based back. The Reds have been looking for a new left-back since Alberto Moreno left the club last year. James Milner took on the role when Robertson was unavailable.
“We have been watching Kostas for a long time and we are pleased that he joins us. It’s the best news before we meet again very soon,” Klopp said. “He’s a very smart footballer with a win-win attitude, and I like his mindset. It adapts very well to the environment and the preference we have in our wardrobe.”
