Jurgen Klopp has been given a selection headache for Liverpool’s FA Cup game against Arsenal as Owen Beck is suspended.
Liverpool have a challenge at left-back, where Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are absent due to injury. Klopp opted to withdraw Beck from his season-long loan spell at Dundee to have the option in that position, but the 21-year-old will not play against Arsenal on Sunday.
Beck is ineligible for the match at the Emirates Stadium as he will have to serve a suspension due to yellow cards obtained while playing for Dundee. The Welshman was cautioned while playing against Bonnyrigg Rose and Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish League Cup in July.
The FA has since shown that Beck will have to serve his suspension in the game against Arsenal. That means Joe Gomez will likely continue to play at left back, having started in that position in the 2-0 win over Burnley and the 4-2 win over Newcastle.
The suspension is a blow to Beck, who returns to Anfield ready to make the most of the opportunities provided by injuries to those in his position. He played 20 times on loan at Dundee, scoring two goals and attracting interest from other clubs. .
“He’s made wonderful progress,” Klopp said of the decision to call him up. “Now the scenario here is clear: we’ve lost two of our left-backs, so it makes sense to bring back a guy we like and who’s going to be had with us. “

“To be honest, we value either of them a lot because of what the boys did when they were here. Nat, it hasn’t worked one hundred percent at Celtic, there have been some injuries still if a team like Celtic is in a situation difficult. consistently positive and you’re on the team, you stay on the team, if [they] aren’t on a consistently positive period and you’re on the team then you can just pass out, so it doesn’t say anything about quality. So Nat moves on to working out with us and then we go over to see how it happens.
“With Rhys it’s a bit different, it’s going to be first with the U21s. I’ll have to explain to him why his loan didn’t work out, it was noticeably different and I know the guy who was hoping to play in Scotland, a hundred consistent with a hundred.
