Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed who he needs to win the Premier League between Manchester City and Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners arrived at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, knowing that victory would give them a four-point lead over rivals Man City.
Arsenal will gain confidence after a 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s previous side of the season, but last season they were beaten 4-1 in this match.
Liverpool, who are struggling with Arsenal, host Brighton hours before the clash with Etihad and will be keeping a close eye on Manchester scenes as they try to win the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.
Carragher says an Arsenal win would be better for Liverpool than if Manchester City won, and believes the Gunners can almost be knocked out of the name race if they are beaten at the Etihad.
During a fan debate on The Overlap, Manchester United hero Gary Neville said: “Surely Arsenal will win on Sunday, from Liverpool’s point of view?
Former Liverpool captain Carragher replied: “Yes, even if Manchester City lose this game on Sunday, they can still win the league. He can still win the championship if he loses. “
“I think if Arsenal go down, I don’t see how they will win the league. For Liverpool, they probably need City to lose, but I think they could still win the league after that.
“I don’t see Arsenal winning the league if they are defeated. From Liverpool’s point of view, only one team is fighting for the title.
“I know in terms of issues it wouldn’t make much difference, but I think psychologically it would be really beneficial for Arsenal if City beat them, especially as Liverpool would be expected to beat Brighton at home and then they would be in the best position. Arsenal. too.
“I think it would be difficult for Arsenal to recover from that. “
Neville said a Manchester City win would particularly hurt Arsenal’s (and Liverpool’s) hopes of winning the Premier League trophy on May 19.
“If Manchester City win on Sunday, I’m not saying the game is over yet, it would be very difficult for Arsenal and Liverpool,” he said. “Given City’s experience and background, it would be very tricky. “
Manchester City are looking to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title and sixth since 2018. Guardiola’s side achieved a historic treble last season and may fit into that effort this season ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid and the FA Cup semi-finals. -final. -final with Chelsea.
Arsenal last won the Premier League trophy in 2004 but led the title race for the 2022-23 campaign before collapsing and closing five problems with City.
