There are just two weeks left before Arne Slot assesses his first Premier League game against newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
And Liverpool’s new head coach has two more opportunities to polish his players before the big kick-off – by adding an inadequate friendly against Manchester United in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A meeting with Sevilla will take place next Sunday before the big dance begins and, for now, transfer talks remain silent as Newcastle battle to keep Anthony Gordon.
Here are the main things to watch out for in and around Anfield this weekend.
Anthony Gordon will be presented with talks about a new contract to draw interest away from Liverpool.
The English winger struggled to be promoted at Liverpool for £100m as the Geordies struggled to raise cash before the end of June to avoid a PSR breakup and a problem deduction.
Gordon signed for £40m from Everton but has since increased his reputation at St James’ Park with 11 goals and ten assists in the Premier League last season. The 23-year-old’s existing contract is said to expire in June 2026 and Newcastle are keen to move temporarily to retain his value as he emerges as a normal senior international.

With Liverpool’s overtures to Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon turned away, eyes are turning to West Ham’s Jarred Bowen, says Reds icon Michael Owen.
Owen, a former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker, believes Bowen would be an ideal option for Gordon and could offer them an older but likely less expensive option.
Owen said: “The verbal exchange with Mo Salah has faded a bit, so I’d be surprised if he left Liverpool, but the challenge for the club is that he doesn’t have much time left on his contract, so it has to be done. “to make a resolution one way or another.
“They’re having a great time now with Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez, but if any of them left, Jarrod Bowen would be my favorite. “
Owen says more about why Bowen is the right person.
Liverpool are now on the road for two games after beating Real Betis and Arsenal in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
The Reds have a game left when they face Manchester United early Sunday morning, but they have been impressive in their first two games in the United States, when Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal beat Betis.
And so goes our boy’s excursion on land.
