Mohamed Salah bagged a brace as Liverpool secured a massive come-from-behind victory to beat Southampton 3-2 on Sunday and move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Arne Sslot’s team took the lead through a Dominik Szoboszlai shot after a Saints error, but Adam Armstrong equalized before the break. He scored off a rebound after Caoimhin Kelleher scored his initial penalty.
Poor protection after a Southampton counterattack allowed Mateus Fernandes to make it 2-1 in the 56th minute. But Mohamed Salah was once again the guy to watch, as he took advantage of an Alex McCarthy error to draw the Reds level. .
And after Yukinari Sugawara handballed inside his own box, Salah smashed in a fine penalty to deliver a vital three points that fuels Liverpool’s hopes they can win the Premier League title this season.
Express Sport rates and slates the Liverpool players after their win…
Caoimhin Kelleher – 7
Again reliable. He made a smart stop on Flynn Downes in the first half and saved Armstrong’s penalty, but was unlucky for the rebound to fall towards the striker.
Conor Bradley – 6
Displayed some good link-up with Salah on the overlap. Guilty of poor defending for the Mateus Fernandes goal, however, in which he and his team-mates got caught ball-watching. Largely solid in the tackle. Booked.
Ibrahima Konate – 5
He survived an early but lackluster penalty in a first half in which he gave the ball away profitably on several occasions. He was booked for a clumsy foul on Paul Onuachu with whom he had a difficult battle. The best part of the moment.
Virgilio van Dijk – 6
He lost the ball unnecessarily before Southampton’s penalty, but stepped up in the second half helping Liverpool to exert pressure. He won the ball unusually high in the box in a matter of moments.
Andy Robertson – 5
It was complex, but at times its deliveries were disappointing. Tyler Dibbling committed a penalty foul even though the foul appeared to be outside the box. He was extinguished at the far post by a late chance and was lucky that Konate took care of Sugawara.

Curtis Jones – 7
He pressed well on the first goal to force Southampton to concede ownership and complete each and every one of his 56 passes, but not as much artistic influence compared to past outings. Replaced early.
Ryan Gravenberch – 7
Good on the ball but occasionally poor off it against the Southampton counter-attack. It was his ball that created the confusion for Salah’s equaliser but he missed a good chance to make it 3-2. Was often the man playing the first pass that led to a Liverpool chance.
Mohamed Salah – 8
He managed 3 shots in the first half but was silenced differently by the home team. It seemed like the same story in the second half until he made the most of McCarthy’s mistake and scored the penalty to win the game. His hat-trick was denied by the inside of the post. Reserved for taking off your shirt.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7
I pressed brilliantly and implemented a thin curly end for the first purpose. He passed to Salah on purpose to make it 4-2, but the Egyptian slipped over the crossbar. He should have done better in the challenge after Dibling for the goal that made it 2-1 to Southampton, but still better than some of his recent games.
Cody Gakpo – 6
Some clever crossing in the first half, adding a very clever ball for an early chance from Salah, but the quality of those deliveries dropped in the second half. Maybe it’s a shame you got addicted. Reserve.
Darwin Núñez – 5
Barely concerned in the first half, apart from an off-the-ball fight with Jack Stephens. He livened up the second half and almost gave him a hand with a low cross to Luis Díaz, but his passes were also a little off or his positioning was not entirely correct, as demonstrated by a late counterattack on an offside. .
Luis Díaz – 7
I made it 2-2 less than a minute after coming on, but I completely missed the ball. He forced a very good save from McCarthy with a header from a corner and gave Liverpool’s attack power.
Alexis MacAllister – 6
He scored one just over the crossbar and helped Liverpool delay the game.
Wataru Endo – N/A
I came here to watch the game.
