Liverpool are close to completing their signing after agreeing a five-year contract with Wolverhampton striker Wanderers Diogo Jota following Thiago Alcantara’s transfer from Bayern Munich.
Liverpool increases its spending on the remaining days of the move-in window. After a long date with Bayern, the Reds, however, secured Alcantara through a contract of 27 million pounds ($35 million) on Friday, September 18.
The Portuguese striker has already signed a five-year contract with Liverpool and is expected to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season. Jota will travel to Melwood on Saturday, September 19 for a medical examination before closing the deal.
Meanwhile, the wolves are ending in a $10 million ($12 million) deal by Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever, Sky Sports reported.
Jota is expected to serve as a credible replacement for Liverpool’s front-row trio, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, he notes.
Klopp would have been inspired by Jota’s speed of work, determination and flexibility when Liverpool and Wolves already faced off in the Premier League. Liverpool nevertheless sealed the deal with Jota after concluding that Watford star Ismaila Sarr, the club’s other hope, was too expensive, according to the report.
Before signing Jota, the Reds were willing to pursue Sarr, who scored a double to give Liverpool his first loss last season in February. However, Klopp’s team was reluctant to respond to the Hornets’ request for one million pounds ($52 million) for the Senegalese Extreme and turned to Jota.
Jota has become a main target for the Reds after his impressive streak with the Wolves. The 23-year-old has shown that he is able to bet on frontline positions, but his main attribute is scoring goals. scored 44 impressive goals in 131 appearances for the Wolves.
Alcántara, on the other hand, has long stood out through the Reds as a key player in midfield. The Spaniard is already an experienced veteran in the game who can make a contribution to the top-rated English champion on and off the field.
After completing her move to Anfield, Alcantara spoke of her preference to join the Premier League in an interview published on Liverpool’s official website.
“I think it’s a feeling,” said the 29-year-old. “I have been waiting for this moment for a long time and I am very, very satisfied to be here. “
