After all, Liverpool are likely to emerge from the closed view in the final month of the summer window, with Fabrizio Romano detailing the three signings they intend to make in August.
Much to the dismay of their fans, Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to sign a player in this window. The Reds have money to spend, the consensus at Anfield is that their relatively young squad, full of skill and potential, requires only some adjustments and not radical changes.
As such, Liverpool have been so reluctant to waste their budget on luxury signings that the club’s hierarchy does not consider it entirely necessary.
Still, new boss Arne Slot may still be benefiting from three late additions to his team in the final month of the window.
According to guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are exploring moves in central defence, central midfield and wings.
A central defender signing would be made to compensate for the loss of Joel Matip due to loss of agency. Sepp van den Berg, fresh from an impressive loan spell with Mainz, is an option to fill the void of having to bring in a new player.
However, Van den Berg is desperate to play and if it becomes clear that he will be at the lower end of the centre-back hierarchy, he will push to leave.
With Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez already in place, Van den Berg faces an uphill battle to convince Slot that he deserves regular minutes.

Elsewhere, the possibility of signing a ball-playing number 6 who better suits Arne Slot’s possession taste has been circulated. The idea would be to hire a specialist in this role and push Wataru Endo to the bench.
But arguably Liverpool’s top prospective three-signing blitz is in the front row.
Liverpool were heavily linked with the return of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon to Merseyside at the end of June. The Magpies were at the time racing to get rid of players and balance the books for PSR purposes.
A move for the 23-year-old English foreigner failed to materialise, with Newcastle fulfilling their wishes by promoting Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest (£35m) and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton (£33m).
Nonetheless, Romano showed that Liverpool were seriously making another effort for Gordon.
“In the last days of June, when Newcastle were suffering with Financial Fair Play, they approached Newcastle through Liverpool in search of Anthony Gordon,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“There was an industry and the player really wanted to move, it’s important to say. At the time, Gordon had given the green light to a possible move to Liverpool.
“But Newcastle were not satisfied with the proposals and it was just an exchange, just talks and not a formal offer.
“Liverpool wanted to make an [offer], but it wasn’t what Newcastle expected [to receive] for Anthony Gordon, so the deal has not progressed at this time.
“What I wanted to tell you now is that Liverpool’s interest in Gordon remains a strong interest, it remains a concrete interest.
“He’s still a player that they like internally, that they like, so Gordon is still the most sensible player on Liverpool’s list.
“So we know that for the summer they will be in midfield and they are also contemplating the central position.
“So there are other things Liverpool can do in this window, and they are looking to do those things. “
Romano went on to conclude: “What’s vital to say is that if Liverpool [make a signing] in the attacking positions, Anthony Gordon will continue to be a player that they really value, that they really like.
“And internally they are discussing Gordon’s scenario because they continue to think that he could be a fantastic player in the long term for Liverpool.
“But the challenge may simply lie in the valuation of Newcastle because he is a great player for Newcastle and they do not aim [to sell] at a ‘normal price’.
“It has to be a great value for him that Newcastle give the green light to his possible project. “
Reports in June claimed Newcastle valued Gordon at between £70m and £80m.
