With Gini Wijnaldum lately in a position to negotiate with him as a loose agent, Athletic has taken stock of Liverpool’s star situation.
Wijnaldum has not missed a Premier League match, so for Liverpool, but he still doesn’t have a new contract, and his current contract with the Reds expires at the end of the existing campaign.
As he enters his last six months at Anfield, he is on the loose to negotiate with anyone interested as a loose agent. As reported through The Athletic, Barcelona has been strongly connected with the 30-year-old.
Athletic notes that reports in Spain have stated that Wijnaldum rejected Liverpool’s most recent proposal, however, journalist James Pearce believes this is the case, the scenario at the time of writing this article, unchanged.
While this might be the case, it is not ideal from Liverpool’s point of view, the mere fact that the champion has allowed him to get to this point is a clear indication of the distance between the two parties.
It remains to be noted that an agreement can be reached in the coming weeks and months, or Wijnaldum will pass in search of the contract he thinks he deserves.
