Arne Slot is making his mark as Liverpool’s new manager as his new style of play is transparent and contrasts with Jurgen Klopp’s approach. Liverpool beat Real Betis 1-0 in Pittsburgh on Friday thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal and Mohamed Salah in form. And with a new era underway at Anfield, there’s a lot of intrigue surrounding this Liverpool team.
Arsenal spent last week in Los Angeles facing Bournemouth and Manchester United, drawing 1-1 and winning the latter 2-1. Mikel Arteta still has plenty of stars to return to such as Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and David Raya. They are still on break after a busy summer of outside action. Gabriel Jesus has looked especially good in the preseason. Arsenal could also give a debut to new signing Riccardo Calafiori, who joined Bologna on Monday for a $54 million payment.

Harvey Elliott has explained that Arne Slot’s taste is different to that of Klopp and has described it as a “very sublime Dutch flavor” of football. It’s a great substitution for what those Liverpool players were used to. It will be nice to see how they adapt. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are yet to register for Liverpool after action abroad, while Curtis Jones was injured in the first half against Real Betis.
Saliba, Rice, Saka, Raya and Ramsdale are the players who have yet to sign up for Arsenal after their overseas service, however, many other stars are back with Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel and Kai Havertz all present for the win over Manchester United in California this weekend. Martinelli scored a good goal to win and Arsenal will be hoping they can maintain compatibility and push the likes of Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Havertz all the way to achieve a consistent starting place in attack this season. Karl Hein continues to update it while the duo Raya and Ramsdale are still on break. Teenager Ethan Nwaneri inspired United and is someone to watch this season.
Arsenal appear to be ahead of schedule in their pre-season preparations and this deserves to be a close match as both groups are still missing a similar number of big stars. Liverpool – Arsenal 2-2.
