Liverpool expect to set a record Anfield attendance of 57,000 fans for the visit of Manchester United this weekend.
United face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night and that clash will be followed by a trip to Anfield on Sunday, in what could be a season-defining week for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Liverpool are set to open their new stand at Anfield Road for the event and an additional 7,000 fans will take their seats on the pitch, provided the club receives a safety certificate.

With the new stand open, Liverpool expects a crowd of 57,000 and it will be an Anfield for a Premier League match.
United lost 7-0 to Liverpool when they visited Anfield last season, despite trailing just 1-0 at half-time. They were also beaten 4-0 at Merseyside in the 2021/22 season when Ralf Rangnick was in charge.
“Second half it was not us. It was not our standards. We didn’t play as a team,” said Ten Hag after the 7-0 defeat earlier this year. “We didn’t stick to the plan, we lose our heads. We didn’t do our jobs. We didn’t track back and it was really unprofessional.”
“We have noticed in the future that we can recover. After Brentford, after Manchester City. It is definitely a big and unacceptable setback. We have let down the fans and I am disappointed and angry about that.
“It’s a verification of the truth. . . That’s the message we’re getting. “
United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in their last Premier League game and that defeat means they have now lost 18 games in all competitions in 2023, their tally in a calendar year since 1989.
United have not beaten Liverpool at Anfield since January 2016 when Louis van Gaal was manager.
