NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Virgil van Dijk is doubtful for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Tottenham this afternoon.
The Reds captain, who has started and finished every single league game he has played this season, did not train last week.
Jurgen Klopp explained on Friday: “Virgil wasn’t [training with the team] all week yet. He’ll probably be a part of some parts of the team’s practice today. So we have to see what we can do there.
Conor Bradley, on the other hand, is back after missing the last 4 games with an ankle injury. However, Diogo Jota has yet to return to training.
Elsewhere, all eyes will be on Mohamed Salah when the XIS is shown later today.
The Egyptian foreigner was sent off the bench last Saturday in east London against West Ham, but was called on by his manager in the second half.
Klopp and Salah clashed on the touchline, Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez were forced to step in and defuse the situation. While the Liverpool manager played down the incident, Salah “if I speak today, there will be fire” as he left the London stadium.
The 31-year-old’s return to the starting XI will be the main topic of discussion against Spurs, and Nunez will also be hoping to regain his place.
After back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea, Tottenham desperately need a positive result in their war to finish in the top four.
James Maddison was left out of the starting XI on Thursday against Stamford Bridge, while Ange Postecoglou made five adjustments to his squad, but with little success.
Ben Davies joined Destiny Udogie on the sidelines with Timo Werner out for the rest of the season.
Maddison, along with Rodrigo Bentancur, will be among those vying to regain their place in the squad.
Liverpool’s XI will face Tottenham: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Endo, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Salah, Nunez, Diaz
Tottenham XI face Liverpool: Vicario, Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Royal, Bissouma, Sarr, Kulusevski, Maddison, Johnson, Son
Liverpool vs Tottenham kick-off on Sunday afternoon at 16:30 BST. Live politics will take place on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.
