Liverpool will ‘fight’ against Real Madrid for 150 million euros Rafael Leao | football

Liverpool are reportedly interested in AC Milan striker Rafael Leao, according to a report.

The 24-year-old Portuguese is one of the pillars of Serie A, having joined Milan from Lille in 2019.

Leao has scored forty-five goals in all competitions for Milan since his debut and was instrumental in the club’s victory at the Scudetto in 2021/21, winning the Serie A Footballer of the Year award.

According to Transferes, Liverpool and Real Madrid are “leading the competition” in the race for Leao, and both clubs send scouts to monitor the striker.

However, the report claims that Milan need to sell and are in a position of strength, as this summer they extended their star’s contract until 2028.

It is said that it would take an offer of 150 million euros (£130 million) to convince Milan to reach a deal.

Beyond Leao’s apparent talent, there are reasons to be skeptical about him, to which is added the bad reputation of credibility of Fichajes.

Apart from that, there are also doubts about the Milan star’s position in Liverpool’s plans.

Although versatile, Leao plays on the left at Milan, a domain in which Jurgen Klopp’s team is already too well supplied: Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and even Darwin Nunez are all capable on that flank.

Liverpool’s long-term attacking targets are most likely to be players already established as comfortable on the right, with succession plans in place for Mohamed Salah.

The 31-year-old Egyptian has less than two years to complete his £350,000-a-week contract with Liverpool, while the Saudi Pro League is expected to resume efforts to lure him to the Middle East in the upcoming moving windows.

Meanwhile, other reports in Spain have highlighted the Reds’ interest in Nico Williams. The 21-year-old Athletic Club star’s current contract expires next summer, and Liverpool are closely monitoring the situation.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool’s next big step is to strengthen the defence, with Piero Hincapie (Leverkusen) and Yukinari Sugawara (AZ) among those examined.
