Liverpool are on the verge of wasting their longtime manager, John Achterberg, who will remove Jurgen Klopp from Anfield.
The 52-year-old has been part of the club’s youth team since 2009. He arrived at the club under Rafa Benitez in a younger role.
Achterberg rose through the ranks and was Liverpool’s goalkeeping manager in 2011, working under Roy Hodgson, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Brendan Rodgers and Klopp. With his current contract expiring this summer, the former Tranmere goalkeeper has announced his departure.
Confirming his departure in an emotional statement, Achterberg said: “After 15 years at the club, I have a heavy centre to leave LFC. It has been an amazing and amazing adventure for me and my family. I have enjoyed running every day at this amazing club, but after long reflection, I believe it may be the right thing for me to embark on a new challenge.
“I would like to thank FSG for all their efforts during those 15 years: Mike Gordon, John Henry, Tom Werner and Billy Hogan. It has been a privilege to work for the biggest and greatest football club in the world with its amazing players. Whether it’s Scouse or not, I’ve enjoyed them all over the world.
“A huge thank you to our manager Jürgen Klopp. Klopp has fulfilled all our dreams at LFC. He is one of the coaches in the history of the city, the club and world football.
“He has created world-class groups, his ability to manage people, he has made us believers, winners and a force in European and world football again.

Liverpool enjoyed great luck during Achterberg’s time at the club. He helped the team win the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and much more.
He also had his percentage of influence in the club’s goalkeeping department. Speaking about Achterberg’s role at Anfield, Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker said: “John has proven to be not only a wonderful goalkeeping coach, but also a wonderful guy. Achterberg’s departure is just the latest in a long series of reshuffles at Anfield this summer. Klopp, of course, is on the verge of leaving, and his replacement will most likely be Feyenoord boss Arne Slot. The Dutchman will bring his own training once he moves. It becomes official.
