Liverpool have received a grant to complete the signing of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, as two Reds players have been linked with a departure.
Arne Slot’s side took part in the new taste crusade, as Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah ensured the Reds left Portman Road with the 3 points.
At the time of writing, Liverpool are the only Premier League team without a signing this summer, the club are still seeking full deals in the final weeks of the window.
It is well documented that the club are looking for a new midfielder and, after being rejected by Martín Zubimendi, they are in a position to explore chosen targets.
Another position Liverpool are looking at is in their goalkeeping department, as Caoimhin Kelleher remains linked with a departure from the club.
Liverpool have reportedly reached an “agreement in principle” to sign Georgian Mamardashvili from Valencia.
The deal is said to be worth around €35m and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes it could spell the end of Kelleher.
“Alisson is 31 years old and suffered last season,” he told Football Insider.
“But I don’t think Alisson will be that interested, I think what they will be interested in will be more Kelleher. Any cash they get from their potential sale constitutes a natural benefit under PSR rules.
“Now, at 25, he’s only played a few games for Liverpool in the Premier League, so he’ll take a look at that and think his chances will be limited.
“It may just pass for normal football. Mamardashvili is a brilliant walker. He is Europe’s most promising promising transfer player and is only 23 years old.
“In my opinion, he was the goalkeeper in La Liga last season and we saw what he could do in the European Championship with Georgia.
“I am surprised that Liverpool signed and loaned him at the moment his career is at. He connected with people like Real Madrid.
“There is a bit of uncertainty, but if Liverpool can get a deal like that done then it will be a great signing for them.
“They are recruiting a very intelligent young goalkeeper and he will be the natural successor to Alisson. This raises big questions about Kelleher’s future.
Jurgen Klopp has praised Kelleher, but given his lack of Premier League football, a summer exit remains a possibility.
Another Liverpool star looking back on his long career is Joe Gomez, who was of no concern at all in the Liverpool side that faced Ipswich.
Gomez is reportedly weighing his up lately before the move-in window closes, with the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Fulham all interested.
The 27-year-old is still under contract with Liverpool until 2027, there is a real possibility that he will leave the club in the coming weeks.
