Former Liverpool and Tottenham defender Steven Caulker talks about his next club on LinkedIn after a season in Spain’s fifth tier.
Caulker joined Malaga City, a British football club on the Costa del Sol, in December as player-coach, but was forced to resign from his post earlier this month due to a long wait to get his cadre visa. Since then, the 32-year-old returns to England, where he searches for his next role.
He wrote in a post on the site: “LinkedIn family, please use magic. . . I’m looking for a new team before the 2024/2025 season. Preferably as a coach, but I’m open to playing. In the meantime, I’m looking for a suitable option, I deal with coaching, mentoring, and 1-2-1 public speaking.
The message was accompanied by a photo of Caulker shaking hands with former England manager Roy Hodgson. He scored on his overseas debut (his first and last appearance for the Three Lions) in a 4–2 loss to Sweden in November 2012. Caulker also represented Britain at the 2012 Olympics before switching foreign allegiances and betting thirteen times on Sierra Leone.
After starting his professional career at Tottenham, Caulker enjoyed loan spells at Yeovil, Bristol City and Swansea before joining Spurs’ first team at the start of the 2012/13 season. However, Caulker left the club and joined Cardiff. the following summer for a record payment of £8 million.
Caulker played every single minute of the 2013/14 Premier League season for Cardiff but was unable to prevent them from suffering relegation to the league. This caused Caulker to move again, this time to QPR for another crusade on the more sensible flight. .
But Caulker suffered relegation on his CV and joined Southampton on loan in July 2015 before joining Liverpool mid-season. He made four appearances for the Reds and helped Adam Lallana score that dramatic winning goal in a 5-4 win over Norwich. .
Reflecting on his time at Anfield, Caulker told the Undr The Cosh podcast last year: “Things were replaced for two months. I went, it’s the possibility of my life, I’m doing it. “
“I didn’t know how to deal with my addiction (alcohol/gambling), I was dealing with it because I was looking for a chance. But the opportunity never presented itself. I had a few outings from the start, I played one as a central midfielder, everything went well, unlike West Ham.
“Then we played the cup against West Ham and I had back pains, terrible spasms, I couldn’t get them out. On the morning of the game, I had to tell him (Jurgen Klopp) that I couldn’t play. “I shouldn’t play, but I said I couldn’t play.
“I was devastated and from that moment on he discarded me. I think he saw me as one of those guys who didn’t need to play or who was afraid to play. This may just not have been out of the truth. “
Caulker returned to QPR at the end of the 2015/16 season and made 18 appearances for the west London club before joining Scotland with Dundee. This was followed by a move to Turkey at Alanyaspor, before staying there and spending time in Fenerbahce, Gaziantep and Fatih. Karagumruk.
He returned to England and spent the second half of last season at Wigan.
