Liverpool’s next manager: Klopp’s early favourites revealed; Carragher reacts to ‘body shot’

TEAMtalk can exclusively verify that Xabi Alonso has been proposed as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Reds announced on Friday that Klopp has to retire in what is one of the biggest upsets of the 2023/24 season so far.

Klopp said in an interview with Liverpool FC’s official website that he “lacks energy” and that’s part of the reason he made the surprise decision.

The German coach hopes to end his time at Anfield on a high and it looks like he will do so with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

They have also booked a place in the Carabao Cup final and will also have good luck in the FA Cup and Europa League.

As for who Klopp can update, TeamTalk can exclusively reveal that Alonso has already been discussed through the Liverpool hierarchy.

The former Reds midfielder is currently the coach of Bundesliga table leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

TEAMtalk resources also said that Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi is also on the Merseyside club’s shortlist of directors.

Klopp’s decision to resign has left many fans incredulous. There have been rumours that the manager’s time at Anfield could come to an end soon, but the announcement comes as a sudden.

Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher called the news a “blow” and said he hoped Klopp would do so for a few more seasons.

“This news was going to be a huge blow to the club when it happened,” Carragher wrote in X.

“I thought it would take a few more years.

“What a manager, what a man, let’s faint with pleasure Jürgen!”

As mentioned, Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table lately, but the race for the name is far from over.

Reigning champions Manchester City are five points behind Klopp’s team but have a game in hand on them.

Arsenal and Aston Villa have the same problems as Cityzens and have played the same number of games as Liverpool.

It would be a fitting end to Klopp’s time at Anfield if he could win a few more trophies.

Since joining Liverpool in 2015, he has guided them to a league title, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
