Liverpool’s Owen Beck on loan at Dundee can solve Celtic’s left-back problem

Celtic’s search for a new left-back for the team proved fruitless in the summer move window and will likely be a more sensible precedent in the January move window.

Mark Lawwell and his recruitment team obviously don’t want anything from us because of the excellent job they do, but it’s still worth opting for a call-up that could be the best compatibility for Celtic and we can all get a chance to see it. for ourselves, next Saturday, when the Scottish Premiership resumes after the foreign break.

Celtic will host Dundee on Saturday 16 September with kick-off at 15:00 and many Celtic enthusiasts are already counting down the hours for it. Newly promoted Dundee, last season’s championship winners, had a good start to the season in the first season of the Scottish Premiership and, like Kilmarnock the year before, will be looking to survive and then look to build from there.

Dundee lately sit sixth in the middle of the table with five problems after their first four games and are just one point behind Ross County and Rangers. This war for the top six already promises to be competitive.

Dundee’s standout player this season is 21-year-old left-back Owen Beck, who is most recently on loan for a season from Liverpool with Dens Park and has been notable so far.

Here’s what the Liverpool FC official says about the player:

Owen Beck joined Liverpool FC Academy from Stoke City in the U13 and became part of Jürgen Klopp’s senior team.

The forward-thinking left-back made his debut for the U18s in the 2019-20 season and was also part of the Reds’ U19 squad in the UEFA Youth League.

Beck, a young Welsh international, signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in June 2020 and signed new terms in July 2021 while travelling with the senior national team during pre-season, after enjoying a successful crusade with the under-23s in 2020-21.

He inspired the under-23s with his ability to move forward and make an impact on the game in the final third of the pitch, adding a hat-trick of assists against Tottenham Hotspur in Kirkby in December and a notable late winner against Brighton.

Beck made his debut in 2021-22 when he came off the bench in the Carabao Cup draw at Preston North End and played against Leicester City at the same festival in which Liverpool won the trophy.

The full-back was first loaned out to Famalicao in the Portuguese top flight in the summer of 2022, before also moving on to Bolton Wanderers. His progression will continue with a one-season loan spell to Scottish Premiership side Dundee in 2023. 24.

Beck, whose great-uncle is Liverpool legend Ian Rush, is enjoying much-needed first-team experience at Dundee, but even with that he may struggle to break into Liverpool’s first team when he returns to Anfield. Perhaps Celtic have a chance to regain Ben Doak’s favour here by luring the Welsh under-21 foreign left-back into the sky.

The last time Celtic signed a full-back from a Premier League academy, Jeremiah Frimpong, it worked quite well when Bayer Leverkusen called.

Earlier in the day, Dundee’s resources were very happy with the boy Owen Beck, expecting him to excel as a left-back in the Scottish First Minister post this year and an early favourite for Dundee Player of the Year.

So next Saturday, keep an eye out for Dundee’s left-back and see for yourself what you think. Maybe something in it, Mark, if you’re reading. . .
