There have been plenty of long-term things going on with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, but what about Luis Diaz?

Unlike that trio, who have just over 10 months left on their contract, Diaz is tied to a long-term deal. But its exceptional form and growing importance are such that it deserves an update soon enough.

After all, there has been a summer of rumors and hypotheses about the Colombian, adding crazy reports that Manchester City were close to signing him, but in what was his 100th appearance, he is a must-have player for Liverpool.

And even if those claims from other clubs (Barcelona were also connected) were possibly not accurate, it’s a sign that something is coming; an agitated agent or a small sign of discontent or discomfort that wants to be addressed.

There’s a flame of that in Alexander-Arnold’s unfortunate reaction to being substituted again, after being withdrawn in last weekend’s inaugural Premier League win over Ipswich Town, which new manager Arne Slot had to suppress by saying he was “looking after himself”. “.

At the same time, Van Dijk, who incredibly has only lost two of his hundred league games for Liverpool at Anfield, has spoken of how “calm” he is on his own contractual stage, while Salah does what Salah does. The Egyptian scored again.

That came with a helping hand from Diaz, who scored a stunning goal to open the scoring, and so Slot’s first league game at Anfield started off on the right foot and confidently with a well-deserved win over Brentford.

In fact, it’s arguably Diaz’s most impressive overall functionality for Liverpool, in the way he connected the attack and the dynamism he showed, since signing for £37m from Porto in January 2022. Diaz scored, created five chances and won all six. duels and had a 100 percent pass rate, which is even more impressive considering he’s a striker.

There was also another purpose for Salah – who else?– who had struck against Ipswich and the only fear of Jurgen Klopp’s successor was that the score would not be even more convincing. In saying this, Slot seemed to ask for more when Klopp can Simply insist that Liverpool were more at full speed and therefore vulnerable. Instead, they kept a second blank sheet in a row and, along with City, Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion got off to a better start.

Liverpool fully deserved their problems, admitted Brentford’s Thomas Frank, scoring twice, scoring twice and creating a multitude of chances, which were only denied by some defending.

Brentford also threatened, in an open match, but would have paid the price for leaving Ivan Toney out of their team while his future is yet to be resolved. Frank refuted him and pointed out that they had already beaten Liverpool without him. He added that the striker “trained all week” but admitted that he did not know what was going to happen next.

Diaz’s future is actually secure, for now, and with a contract that runs until 2027. But his reputation is growing and deserves praise and was summed up in the exciting way he achieved his goal.

There were thirteen seconds left between Brentford and Díaz, who discovered the net. Ibrahima Konate headed a clearance, Salah won a challenge with Vitaly Janelt on the edge of the Liverpool penalty area and Diogo Jota ran from his own half, sliding a pass to Diaz. who had made a clever diagonal run between the two defenders in cover.

It was the striker’s angle of movement that scored the goal, as he then collected the ball at full speed with two touches before sending it towards the goal. There’s no chance he’ll get caught. On the bench were Slot’s top five and his extremely cheerful training team.

This trio of Salah, Diaz and Jota is obviously Liverpool’s first line of attack and it is telling that all three were replaced to give them a rest before the end. Slot’s substitutes are Cody Gakpo, who hit the crossbar, Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott.

That goal means that Díaz has scored the first goal at Anfield for three consecutive seasons. Now, of course, he will have to stick to this much more consistently.

Over the last two full campaigns, the 27-year-old has finished with five and thirteen goals, but he has the ability to add to that total in particular. Díaz is aware of this need. We say score, for us the numbers are vital because we are forwards. “We live for goals,” he stated.

In the second half, Liverpool took the lead with a clever left-to-right pass from Diaz to replace the game, deciding on Salah. He had moved intelligently through space, stayed inside, calmly picked up the ball and bent it around goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Your statistics? It is his 128th goal (93 scored, 35 assists) at Anfield in just 128 league games.

Before that, Brentford had missed their most productive opportunity, with Alisson saving Nathan Collins’ header from close range. The 31-year-old, who refused to sign for Saudi Arabia in the summer and insisted he would stay until his contract expired in 2026, has been welcomed by the Kop. He has shown himself to be very comfortable for the Liverpool. Su fast future is certain.

“I think Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has a lot of qualities, adding one on his full-backs. If we play him in midfield, he can pass the ball, which he can do very well, but I need him in dangerous positions. in front of goal.

“He has to take a stand and others have to react to it. And it depends on how the opposition is aligned and how we can take advantage of it.

“We try to influence him as much as possible before the game, to tell him that maybe here or there you can open up some spaces to be able to come in. But nine times out of ten the opponent does something more to us. Anything. ” That, unlike other groups. At least that was the case during my time at Feyenoord and also in those last two games.

“So you try to adjust halftime to see where the player might be loose. So he has bodies to play with everywhere. He can pass the ball as a number 6, he can cross as a right winger.

“And if it’s Array, you can also cross it from there and shoot on target there. He is a difficult player to play against Trent.

“Our defensive functionality today was smart. The only two small chances, adding a big one, were from set pieces. We control the counterattacks, we control them in their preparation. Apart from that, we created a lot of clever plays. chances in the second half.

“I think Liverpool enthusiasts have noticed those performances under Jurgen many, many times. But what I mean is that when we concede a counterattack, we see that everyone retreats looking for everything they can’t concede. This is what went very well today, except for one or two set pieces. The smart thing is that we defended a loose shot very well that scored the first goal.

“In the end you can see that Brentford didn’t have the legs to defend us, that’s because of what we did in the first half. “

“It was a difficult match. I think we did well in the first half. We had to fight in the first 15 minutes, but we discovered our rhythm and then made the bigger transition when we conceded. They looked like they had stepped up their game in the second half and from their second goal it was as if the game was over.

“With the offensive forwards they have, you know it’s a tough game every time you come here. Be prepared to prevent as much as possible. I saved some, I didn’t save enough, I lost the game.

“There are a lot of positives. We had some smart moments with the ball, maybe we will do more to establish that connection with our forwards. That’s all there is to analyze. We have a game on Wednesday, so we have a chance to win.

“A two-stage fit. We were very intelligent in the first half, I imagined it to be very balanced, statistics and everything. They scored the goal thanks to our mistake, which is a scenario here where you either take the ball or the man. “, and then we have to protect the larger situation in two instead of two.

“We have a wonderful opportunity with Christian Norgaard, a loose head. And the occasional opportunity. Our urgent and general preparation is good. So it was a balanced game, perhaps our most productive first half here at Anfield.

“In the second half, Liverpool advanced a chapter. We still had a smart chance through Nathan Collins at 1-0, so we had some chances. We have created enough today. In the end, Liverpool wins cleanly.

On the lessons to be learned ahead of the upcoming away games:

“The first half, can we then increase to 60, then 70 and so on in one game?

“We just know that Liverpool are a smart team. For me, City, Arsenal and Liverpool are three that are a little bit ahead of everyone else, some of the most productive groups in Europe. We expected more and we got here. We are here to try to win, but we didn’t.

“It was wonderful to score. I check out to help the team in the most productive way possible. Of course, numbers are very vital for us because we are avant-garde and we make a living from it.

“Very satisfied with the team. The team did a wonderful job and that’s the most vital thing. Now it’s time to rest for the next game.

“It all starts, it sounds cliché, but we all protect together. If you see how they counter us temporarily, we are still the ball no matter what. It’s a smart start, anything to build on, so let’s see.

“The time I spent with Jurgen was incredible. The time with Arne is here. He has a safe way of betting on the back, the way we defend, a lot of games, but with a lot of details. We see many patterns, with and without the ball that give us a lot of confidence and disposition in the team.

“I’m not talking about Jürgen’s period, but that’s already a thing of the past. But we have a new boss and that’s what we need to focus on, without comparing bosses.

“No new players have arrived yet, but there is this extra duty because I know the players by heart. I’m here for him, I told him that from day one. I’m going to help him and the team. ” staff as much as he can. That’s what he needs and that’s what we all want.

On his future:

“I am very calm [about my future]. The fact is, I need to get back to playing the most productive season imaginable. I need to be vital and continue to be vital for the club. What happens? Let’s see, I’m still very calm with my situation. I have no reason to think about anything else because I have the entire season to play.

“Whatever happens now, Anfield holds a special place in my heart. And he succeeded. Let’s see what happens.

“I need to go as far as possible and win. But playing for Liverpool, one of the most successful clubs in the world, if not the most successful. It’s wonderful to wear this shirt. But there are so many things to do. It improves for the club, for me and for the team, let’s see what it brings.

“We played a fantastic game. The team gave everything from the first minute, they showed it and it was an intelligent game. With ownership and without the ball, he was intelligent, so we are happy.

On his for next season:

“We know that there is still room for improvement. In transition, we have to be patient, but we’re pretty straightforward, but we’re in that transition [to this style]. Everyone is working hard to integrate Arne’s ideas.

On the Manchester United match:

“We know that, against Manchester United, it’s a derby, it’s very important for the Club and for us. We will prepare for the week and do the best we can to win this match.

“[Arne] Slot will be very happy with his departure. It was necessary to score six points in the first two games, and he did it.

“But you have to be patient. Even when the wonderful Jurgen Klopp arrived, not everything was perfect. It took a while for enthusiasts to understand what he was going for and adapt it to their genre. The same will happen with Slot.

“Slot couldn’t have wanted a more serene start: two wins, two blank sheets and the promise of additional upgrades. I would probably recommend that his team have been more clinical in the two matches so far, but the Kop ended the day. chanting the call of the new manager. They like what they’ve noticed so far.

Arne Slot said before the attack that Klopp would not raise his fist and there is none when he greets the Anfield faithful.

There the final whistle sounded and Liverpool won the Arne Slot’s first home league match 2-0. Goals from Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah took the score to two wins out of two for the home team. Back-to-back 2-0 wins to start Liverpool’s season.

Arne Slot’s chants echo through Anfield as we move forward in the final seconds.

Mbeumo reserved himself in the last moments. Moments earlier he looked for a loose shot and then fouled Mac Allister, who followed a shot towards the ball and thus earned a yellow card.

Liverpool will make their definitive change:

OFF Gravenberch

Endodontics

Gravenberch leaves to a standing ovation.

There are more minutes.

Gakpo shines on a ball from the left and Pinnock does well to direct the ball under pressure from his six-yard box.

After Flekken played the ball offside, Elliott showed quick thinking and temporarily took the throw-in. Szoboszlai passes to Elliott, who sends in a cross from the right. Núñez heads but his attempt goes wide. The offside flag still raised.

Arne Slot’s chant echoes through Anfield as Liverpool changes course:

OFF Salah

AT Elliott

Hit the bar! Gakpo intervenes on the left and shoots towards goal. It separates from Collins’ head and cuts the bar. Robertson throws it and Konate wins the header, but misses.

Szoboszlai tries to locate Gakpo on the post, but there are too many of them.

Double substitution for Brentford:

OFF Wissa, Janelt

ON Schade, Onyeka

Treble in Liverpool:

OFF Jota, Díaz, Alexander-Arnold

ON Núñez, Gakpo, Bradley

Salah (71′)

This goal had been in place for a while. Salah is on the right side. Flekken goes out of his way to reduce the angle, but Salah opens his frame and curls up in the far corner. There will be a VAR review because he is close to offside but Salah is in play. 0 Liverpool.

“Brentford’s resistance despite everything is broken. Liverpool are looking very cleverly when it clicks. After two games, the transition is proceeding encouragingly smoothly. “

Mbuemo descends into the Liverpool area after a touch from Robertson but the offside flag is raised.

Liverpool are at Brentford but have yet to add the second. Díaz approaches the area and gives it to Jota on the left side of the area. His shot is blocked by Collins.

Brentford double substitution:

OFF Lewis-Potter, Janelt

IN Carvalho, Damsgaard

A lot of applause at Anfield for Carvalho on his return to Liverpool after arriving from Brentford just a few weeks ago.

Díaz so close to his second. Salah passes Ajer on the right and cuts him off. Diaz takes it for the first time around the penalty spot and Flekken does it to get down to his left and push it back. Liverpool are knocking on the door of their second.

“Liverpool are more productive when they play at a higher pace. Exciting one-touch football. Brentford was right that there is still some danger in this game after an hour.

The best one-touch game from the hosts. Salah makes a one-two with Szoboszlai, then reaches Jota and Mac Allister, who almost dig Salah out, but Janelt pushes him for a corner. Alexander-Arnold tries to score from the corner, which he tried in the first half and hit the post. The ball returned to Robertson, who sent in a cross from the left and found Konate, whose header was saved by Flekken.

Sublime Liverpool football. They paint it from back to front and advance towards the Brentford area. Mac Allister digs up Alexander-Arnold with a big dink and Alexander-Arnold plays it for the first time in Jota. He thinks he’s about to score yet Collins sneaks in with a wonderfully timed block to deny Jota.

Brentford has a corner on the left in front of their traveling supporters. They take it short and then Jensen sends it to the post. Ajer takes the lead and Alisson makes a clever save to deny him.

Alexander-Arnold plays a glorious low ball behind Jota’s track. The Portuguese forward shoots from outside the area but his shot is blocked. What a pass from Alexander-Arnold.

Mbuemo cuts to the left and shoots from the edge of the area. He deflects and goes for a corner. He was cut and sent off, but Van Dijk was there to go. Roerslev tries a daring volley from about 25 meters. but he is absolutely wrong.

Salah unearthed Szoboszlai with a very good pass in the right channel of the area. He passes the ball and Brentford does very well to keep the ball out of danger.

What a Flekken stop. Jota tries an acrobatic kick that ends up finding Robertson at the far post. He was meant to score but Flekken made a very good save, basically with his face, to put the home team away.

Collins falls very early in this part of the moment after touching Jota in an aerial challenge. Brentford conceded a weak kick.

Liverpool’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who won silver at the Paris Olympics in the women’s heptathlon, on the field at half-time to show off her silver medal and wearing a Liverpool shirt.

We are on the road at Anfield. Liverpool attack the Kop in this second half.

Possession: Liverpool 56% – Brentford 44%

Shots on Goal: Liverpool 2-1 Brentford

Throw-ins in the rival area: Liverpool 10-5 Brentford

Don’t forget that you can give your opinion on the adjustment in the comments section.

“[Thomas] Frank will be pleased with the way his team reacted as the part went on. Liverpool seemed stuck between inviting more tension on the counterattack; This is where they seemed most damaging, but they lost after a wonderful start. Slot was pleased to make some part-time changes.

The whistle blew and Liverpool went into half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to an early goal from Luis Díaz.

Two minutes added to the end of this first part.

Jensen brings down Mac Allister and Stuart Attwell shows him a yellow card. Now there are two yellow cards on the side.

Lewis-Potter discovers it with a magnificent diagonal ball from the right. He cuts from left to right and shoots from the edge of the area. Alisson ducks to his left to make the save.

Liverpool look very good from back to front. Alexander-Arnold is on the right and cuts to the left. His curling attempt suffers a great deflection and almost ends up in the Brentford goal. He dives into a corner, which Brentford clears.

Norgaard brings out Diaz on the left wing and the Brentford midfielder is rightly booked for completely getting rid of Diaz.

Gravenberch is booked for a sliding tackle on Jensen. He slid with some force but no stud appeared, so a yellow card turns out to be the correct decision for Stuart Attwell.

Roerslev sent a clever ball from the right to the far post, but Konate did well to win the header and it went for a corner, which Liverpool cleared. Brentford have already had several set pieces; Corners and free kicks, and every single opportunity they have, is sent into the Liverpool penalty area.

“A brief summary of the quick difference between Klopp-ball and Slot-ball. With Klopp-ball preparation is quick, quick, quick. Slot-ball is a little faster-slow-slow-fast. The rhythm adjustments in the property make it a little more jazz than heavy metal.

Mbuemo enters a cozy half and Norgaard is well placed to shoot towards goal, but he wastes the chance and ends up deflecting off the post. A missed opportunity for visitors.

Salah tries to counter but is penalized by referee Stuart Attwell for a foul on Lewis-Potter. Instead of Liverpool being on the counter-attack, Brentford now have a loose shot in a position on the left.

Szoboszlai took out Wissa while Brentford countered and the Hungarian earned a booking. Szoboszlai had given the ball away and now it is in the book.

Alexander-Arnold takes it but can’t get it down enough temporarily and goes to attempt a purpose kick. You will be disappointed with this effort.

Diaz intervened on the left and Norgaard brought him down not from Brentford’s dominance in a central position. Good community for Liverpool. . .

Alexander-Arnold went down just outside the Brentford box, but referee Stuart Attwell rejected those appeals.

Liverpool move it magnificently to the right. Szoboszlai returns the ball to Alexander-Arnold, who kicks Salah. He tries to locate the far corner but his shot comes off absolutely wrong. Live, it looked like he had gone astray, but Salah just didn’t make it at all.

Lucky for Liverpool. Diaz enters the box from the left and discovers Robertson with a run into the box. He tries to pass to Flekken near the post, but the Brentford goalkeeper comes down to save.

Alexander-Arnold takes the inswinger and tries to score, but Collins heads towards the corner. Alexander-Arnold continues, but Flekkn avoids danger.

On a Brentford throw-in at the back of Liverpool’s half, the home side counterattacked again. Alexander-Arnold sent him ahead to locate Salah, but Lewis-Potter was right to sneak in and seize him not from his own area.

Diaz (13′)

Brentford threatened by pushing everyone into his corner. Liverpool counterattacked and Jota lunged forward. Then he puts it on the trail of Díaz, who runs into the area. The Colombian overtook Flekken and found himself at the back of the pitch to give Liverpool the lead. The first league goal at Anfield with Arne Slot and a goal from Diaz in his 100th appearance with Liverpool.

“A certain football journalist from the Telegraph Merseyside wrote last season that if Luis Diaz could finish, he would score 30 goals per season. This would be the first of many under Slot. A lightning breakout, Brentford falling into the trap Liverpool like. so much, still on the counterattack.

Brentford gets the first of the game when Alexander-Arnold slides to block Lewis-Potter’s cross. Liverpool clears and counterattacks. . .

Liverpool have the first corner of the game when the final touch comes from Pinnock on the right side of the box. Robertson will take the inswinger. Wissa heads towards Brentford and then counterattacks, but Liverpool gather men to prevent the visitors from entering their area.

Janelt discovers Wissa in the left channel and heads towards the Liverpool area. He sends an invitational ball but none of his teammates are there to receive the cross.

When the team sheets were published, it looked like Brentford were going to field a three/five full-back, but at first it looked like they might be going for a four-man full-back. Ajer seems to be betting on the left back, with Lewis-Potter betting more as a winger than as a winger.

After the first performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone of the new championship season, we head to Anfield. Arne Slot’s first home game in the Premier League against Liverpool begins.

Both groups are coming out of the tunnel and we are just minutes away from kick-off at Anfield. It was Liverpool’s first Premier League home game without Jurgen Klopp on the bench since September 2015. Arne Slot walks out of the groups and waves to the crowd. while taking his position on the bench.

Liverpool owner John Henry is at Anfield today. It’s time for you to walk alone.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Jota, Diaz.

Substitutes: Kelleher, Gómez, Endo, Núñez, Gakpo, Elliott, Tsimikas, Quansah, Bradley.

Brentford: Flekken, Roerslev, Collins, Pinnock, Ajer, Norgaard, Janelt, Jensen, Mbuemo, Lewis-Potter, Wissa.

Substitutes: Valdimarsson, van der Berg, Schade, Carvalho, Onyeka, me, Yarmoliuk, Damsgaard, Trevitt.

About Iván Toney:

“The prestige is the same as last week. Things are going down with transfer hypotheses, so the resolution is the same. He is well educated, there is no problem. I prefer to concentrate on the game and the players who play than to talk his”. .

About his emotions:

“I feel normal. I don’t expect the fans to be there for me, they’re there for the players. It’s great to play your first home game, especially after a win last weekend.

About the variety of Ibrahima Konate that Jarell Quansah has:

“Jarell missed a few educational sessions this week due to a small injury, but he trained yesterday, but that, combined with Konate’s arrival, made the resolution easier. If Jarell had a match, it would have been harder.

“And so begins… a new era at Anfield without the charismatic presence of Jurgen Klopp. But we should not expect great fanfare from the Kop to welcome Arne Slot, as the Dutch coach prefers a discreet arrival to his new audience.

“Support is not something we take for granted. We know it has to be constantly earned,” Slot writes in his show notes, after stating that he needs to focus more on the team than himself.

“Brentford have brought back Ivan Toney, an absolutely unsatisfactory situation. Thomas Frank will be very happy with the end of the transfer window to be able to re-sign players from his club’s roster.

“Liverpool are forced out of the Jurgen Klopp era to maximise Arne Slot’s chances of repeating it. It’s no surprise that the rest of the world is in a position to keep up.

“Right now and possibly for the foreseeable future, each and every decision, comment and birthday party is seen through the lens of ‘what would Klopp do?’ » This despite a winning start to the Premier League opener last week.

Anfield is the scene of the final Premier League match of the weekend as Liverpool host Brentford in Arne Slot’s first competitive home game against Liverpool. Slot was introduced to Anfield against Liverpool in their pre-season friendlies against Seville and Las Vegas. Palmas just before the start of the season, but today is the first time Liverpool will play at Anfield in the league without Jurgen Klopp in charge since September 2015. Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-2 at home under Klopp’s predecessor , Brendan Rodgers, back in September 2015. Klopp said goodbye to the Kop in May with a 2-0 win over Wolves and is now Slot’s team. When asked earlier this week if he was nervous ahead of his first home Premier League match, Slot replied that he did not feel nervous about his team’s preparation during the week.

“It’s the first league game at Anfield and I’m looking forward to it, but I’m looking forward to getting to each and every game. I expect them [Liverpool enthusiasts] to be twice as loud as the Ipswich enthusiasts because they were so loud.

“It would be a big help, but I’m not nervous at all, at least not at the moment. I’m preparing the team and the nerves are not there. That would not be a smart thing to do. If you’re nervous, you may not accept as true what you’ve done before, you may not accept it as true with your team. I’m confident in what we do all week to prepare the team and I’m confident in the team on Sunday.

Liverpool entered the Slot era with a win after beating Ipswich 2-0 at Portman Road thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

Brentford also won their first match by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at home, Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa with the goals. Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg left Anfield for the Gtech Community Stadium in the summer. Carvalho made his Brentford debut on the bench in the win over Crystal Palace and van den Berg, who signed from Liverpool on Thursday, may be in the running for his debut this afternoon. Ivan Toney, who sat out last weekend due to rumors linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia. Arabia, he may play today after training this week.

Liverpool won matches against Brentford last season with an aggregate score of 7-1.

We will have news from the team shortly.
