Lookman makes Champions League debut as RB Leipzig beats Zenit St Petersburg

Ademola Lookman made his Champions League debut in RB Leipzig’s 2-1 win over Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

The striker secured a permanent move to Red Bull Arena this summer from Everton after a loan spell with the Bundesliga side.

The Anglo-Nigerian made his third appearance this season and helped Julian Nagelsmann’s side take all three points against the Russian club.

Yaroslav Rakitskiy gave the lead in the 25th minute before Konrad Laimer equalized for the German side 4 minutes into the second half.

Marcel Sabitzer scored the winning goal moments before the hour mark after receiving a hand from Lukas Klostermann.

Lookman played 70 minutes in his first outing in the elite European tournament before loaning him to Yussuf Poulsen.

The win propelled the Red Bulls to the top of Group G with six problems in three games.

Lookman hopes to keep his job when Leipzig face Freiburg in a league match on Saturday.
