Louis Saha as Olivier Giroud reacted to Timo Werner’s Chelsea signing

Louis Saha insists that Olivier Giroud will be concerned about the arrival of his compatriot Timo Werner at Chelsea.

Frank Lampard signed Germany’s Werner from RB Leipzig before this summer in a deal that charges 47.5 million pounds.

Werner’s arrival at Stamford Bridge may mean even less play time for Giroud, who has struggled to cement a position in Chelsea’s starting line-up since leaving His London rivals Arsenal in 2018.

The Frenchman has set vital targets for the Blues, however, he has played as a substitute against Tammy Abraham and could slip even further into the lineup now that Werner has joined him in west London.

But former Premier League striker Saha has said Giroud is a ‘hard cake’ who will be alarmed by the additional festival in Chelsea.

“Olivier Giroud is a very difficult cookie and you probably wouldn’t worry too much about Timo Werner’s arrival at Chelsea,” Saha told the Football Index podcast.

“Giroud needs to score and needs to help his peers. He’s a competitor, and wherever he is, he’s going to play.

“Giroud is very motivated and I’m sure next year we’ll hear it again.”

Former Manchester United star and France added: “I’m underrated.

“He criticized when he arrived at Arsenal because other people would compare him to sublime players like Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp, but he’s one more player and sets goals for each and every club he plays in.”

Werner and his compatriot Hakim Ziyech began education with their new teammates before this month and Blues captain César Azpilicueta was inspired by his impact.

“Both have proven their quality in the last two weeks,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“We’ve noticed their offensive perspective, how they can create opportunities and how they can score goals, so they’re great additions to the team.

“The faster and less difficult they adapt to the Premier League, the better for everyone, so it’s great to have them with the organization for a few weeks at the end of the season.

“They’re already incorporated and they know everyone, so it’s a wonderful time for that and now we’re all ahead of seeing them on the field.”
