Liverpool’s defender, Dejan Lovren, has joined Zenit in the Russian Premier League on a three-year contract.
The 31-year-old joined the new English Premier League champions in 2014 from Southampton and made 185 appearances with Merseyside, scoring 8 goals.
The Croatian has had two seasons full of trophies at the club, winning the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the Premier League.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the Reds’ official website: “Another Liverpool legend has left the club because it is probably a very vital component of this team.
Always engaged. Thank you always passionate, Dejan #YNWA pic.twitter.com/gefEFKm1RY
“From day one, I don’t forget when we played with [Borussia] Dortmund against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly and Dejan scored with a headbutt with power. That was the symbol in my head when I got here and the idea about defenders.
“A wonderful player, a wonderful person. We will miss him; he’s a style athlete. They gave him everything he needs. But now he’s going to Russia.”
Zenit has paid around 12 million euros for the central defence.
