MADRID (AP) – After all, Luis Suarez in Spain.
Barcelona said on Wednesday night that it had reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the Uruguayan striker for 6 million euros ($7 million).
Suarez went through Barcelona after six more successful seasons in which he won thirteen titles with the Catalan club and left Barcelona as the third top scorer in Barcelona’s history with 198 goals, behind César Rodríguez (232) and Lionel Messi (634).
Suarez, 33, had to find a new club after being informed through Barcelona’s incoming manager, Ronald Koeman, that it was not in his plans. Koeman asked to reorganize the Azulgrana team following the embarrassing 8–2 loss to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. Midfielder Ivan Rakitic has already left for Seville after being told he no longer wanted to, and defenseman Samuel Umtiti is also expected to leave.
Messi, Suarez’s former friend and Suarez’s teammate, wanted to leave but will stay after the club rejected his request for a loose move at the end of last season.
