Luton manager Rob Edwards has revealed that their 5-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday was the “toughest game” of the season for his side so far. The Hatters have suffered several demolitions in recent months, but they still have a chance to avoid going down.
Luton have exceeded expectations since their promotion to the Premier League and have earned the help of neutrals with their attacking approach. Edwards’ side have fought valiantly in the crusade and are now 18th in the table and have a chance of avoiding relegation, with Nottingham Forest. just one point above in 17th place.
Ross Barkley, Alfie Doughty and Elijah Adebayo replaced Luton, but despite a brave and hard-working team, the Hatters couldn’t keep some of the league’s most sensible groups at bay.
City are the newest side to bypass the Kenilworth Road side, notching a 5-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku among the goals. Speaking after the game, Edwards asked where the defeat stood in relation to their 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Emirates and their 4-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

Don’t miss. . . The fearsome Arsenal prodigy scored four goals in a single game for the third time in a month
The former Watford manager responded: “It’s difficult to say. After betting against Arsenal, I think they were smart. Then we played them (City) and they’re pretty smart too and Liverpool weren’t bad at Anfield either. The three away games we’ve played have been brilliant. Today is the toughest game we’ve had all season.
Luton are currently a key player and Edwards expects his numbers to strengthen ahead of the final five games of the season.

He continued: “Today this is never going to hit us or derail us, nothing like that. I cleaned it up as soon as I walked into the locker room behind the players. They’re disappointed, of course, nobody likes to lose, nobody likes to lose five to one, but let’s face it.
“They’re a brilliant team, way ahead of us at the moment, and our four defenders were made up of a centre-back, a full-back and two wingers. It’s going to be difficult to face this point of opposition. Hopefully we’re getting some bodies back, we’re going to want them and now we’ve been given five games where we think we can win. I’m not saying we’re going to do it, but we can get results.
