Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown that Harry Maguire will remain Manchester United’s captain this season despite his involvement in a Greek court case.
Maguire received a 21-month suspended criminal sentence last month after the British defender was convicted of assaulting a police officer, a juror, resisting arrest and corruption in an incident in Mykonos.
The 27-year-old denied the offences and filed an appeal that overre emphulled the verdict and had no history of criminals before a full retrial.
Following the court’s initial verdict, Maguire got rid of england squad for his recent League of Nations matches against Iceland and Denmark.
However, England coach Gareth Southgate has said he will bring Maguire back to the team for the next international matches.
Now, United technician Solskjaer has made it clear that he will punish his central defense by stripping him of his captaincy.
“He treated it very well and, of course, I’ll be there for him,” Solskjaer told United’s online page on Saturday.
“He’s going to be our captain. We’ll just let Harry and his other people and the procedure be executed. “
Maguire a key figure in his first season with United after moving 80 million pounds ($102 million) from Leicester, making him the world’s top defender.
Solskjaer said Maguire had treated the incident well in Greece, which was allegedly triggered when the player, his circle of family and friends were taunted and attacked in a nightclub.
“Of course, Harry, as you said, had a complicated summer. He didn’t have a long break,” Solskjaer said.
“He separated from the others, as we gave him a few more days and then he came back and looked good.
“To me, he is a highly sensible, absolutely sensible human being and has been a positive guy with the right values. So I hope we can see Harry perform in the best way. “
United begin their Premier League crusade opposing Crystal Palace on 19 September after receiving an additional week off after their participation in the Europa League in August.
