Manchester City have shown off the signing of an Argentine midfielder who proved to be Brazil’s nightmare at the end of last year, and each and every detail – including clever additions – has been revealed.
Pep Guardiola’s side will once again be keen to win the Premier League at the time of the campaign.
Kevin De Bruyne has returned to form after overcoming a serious hamstring injury, while Erling Haaland has returned to training.
They will play a key role in City’s search for a sixth name in seven years and four more, at least because City are expected to make ready-to-use additions in the January transfer window.
City, on the other hand, only think about the long term and that’s where Claudio Echeverri comes in.
The Argentine, 18, has completed a transfer to Man City from River Plate. The move was officially confirmed by Man City’s website on Thursday, though there’s far more to the story than just that.
Echeverri, who turned 18 earlier this month, probably won’t arrive in Manchester for another year. Instead, he will spend next year with River Plate before joining his new Manchester City teammates in 12 months’ time.
It has also been reported that his first glimpse of European football in a year’s time could come on loan to Girona. Spanish club Girona is part of the global City Group.
Echeverri operates in an attacking midfield role and rose to prominence during the recent FIFA Under-17s World Cup, in which Argentine fell at the semi-final stage.
Echeverri scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Brazil U-17. His exploits against the rival of Argentine football instantly made him a hero in his country.
Speaking to X to reveal the key figures of the deal, moving guru Fabrizio Romano said City had paid River Plate €14. 5m (around £12. 4m).
An additional £9m (around £7. 7m) have also been set aside for long-term signings, and City have done wonders on that front.
Romano reported the add-ons are player-related and are not tied to Man City’s overall success as a club.
Since City lift trophies for fun, the club has a better chance of NOT having to pay for signings given that they are player-related. What’s more, it is explained that if the signings are paid, Echeverri will have shown himself in England anyway.
Echeverri’s contract will run until the summer of 2028.
