Man City failure greenlights loan exit as Juventus prepare offer with significant compromise

Juventus will look to loan Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City for the rest of the season, according to reports in Italy.

Phillips is a fringe player at Man City, so much so that it would not even be accurate to say he has fallen down their pecking order, since he has never really looked like someone capable of starting regularly for them.

We realize that an exit may be of interest to you as soon as the January move-in window allows.

With that in mind, Juventus, who lost Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli to suspensions, have been paying for Phillips’ situation.

According to Tutto Juve, they are now ready to submit their offer to Manchester City, which will be on loan.

The report states that Phillips would “accept the loan,” but it’s his current employers who will possibly want to convince.

After all, Juventus are said to still be counting on Manchester City to contribute a very significant portion of Phillips’ salary.

In addition, it specifies whether this movement can simply lead to a permanent transfer.

Phillips is under contract with Man City until 2028 after joining them from Leeds United last summer.

He has made 29 appearances for the club, adding 8 this season, but his start this season came in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United.

Having turned 28 last week, Phillips arguably doesn’t need to waste too much of his career, especially as Euro 2024 approaches.

Juventus may be offering him a platform to play for a foreign club for the first time.

Questions remain as to whether it is complex enough to be compatible with the midfield profile they want (Phillips prefers to be at the front of the defence, deeper than the absent Pogba or Fagioli), but the communication of a move is not going to disappear in Turin.

Last month, the media insisted on TEAMtalk that Phillips was at the top of Juventus’ wish list, ahead of Arsenal’s Thomas Partey.

Phillips, however, has been connected with other clubs besides Juventus, adding a few Premier League suitors, and will want to stay on top of all his options.

Given his situation, Phillips can’t go wrong with his next move. Only time will tell if Juventus will eventually become his receiver.
