Manchester City have submitted an application for permission to build on their educational flat and amenities for their women’s team.
City unveiled the £200m facility in 2014 to house their first team and women’s team, as well as bringing the academy under the same roof to move the youngsters from Platt Lane. One of the two main buildings at the complex houses Pep Guardiola and his side, while the women’s team and academy have shared the other.
City believe the time is right for the women’s team to have a separate area and have submitted a proposal to Manchester City Council that illustrates what they should do, with a £10 million, 17,000 sq ft standalone development adding a hydrotherapy. , a high-performance gym and research area. If the club had the green light, it would consider opening the new area in 2025 and it would also be imaginable to expand it further in the future.

City captain Steph Houghton said: “I’m incredibly proud to have lived at the City Football Academy for the past ten years and to have noticed first-hand how the built-in amenities we are a part of have contributed to the progress of the women’s team. My teammates and I have benefited greatly from our collaboration with coaches, researchers, nutritionists and everyone else who has helped us expand as professional footballers and compete at the highest level.
“As we look to take the next step in our adventure of developing women’s football, it is fitting that we are now building our own purpose-built home, at the heart of the City Football Academy, and I am very happy that the club has the ambition and commitment to continue investing in our future.
