Manchester City are planning to make a move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha in January, according to reports.

Palhinha continues to impress in the Premier League as Fulham cement themselves on the more sensible flight. The Portugal international is due to leave this summer and head for medical examinations at Bayern Munich, but Marco Silva’s side pulled out of the sale after being unable to find a replacement.

Palhinha has continued to attract interest from Bayern ahead of the January window but according to The Daily Star, City look set to join the race. It is reported the 28-year-old could leave Craven Cottage next month for around £50million.

Liverpool and Chelsea have been connected to Palhinha in the past, but both sides ended up looking elsewhere over the summer. City’s current midfield set-up can replace the winter window, with Kalvin Phillips set to leave in a limited period of time.

Elsewhere, The Mirror reports that City have also joined the race for River Plate star Claudio Echeverri.

The attacking midfielder has been dubbed the ‘next Lionel Messi’ after his starring role for Argentina at this year’s U-17 World Cup. The 17-year-old has already played for River Plate’s first team.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also said to be long-time admirers of the teenager, but City are credited with dating the club, with whom they dealt for Julian Alvarez last year.

Echeverri’s current contract has a buyout clause, believed to be worth around £21. 4 million, but will increase to £25. 7 million within 10 days of the end of any transfer window. The teenager admitted that his dream is to follow in Messi’s footsteps. and play for Barcelona.
