A recent report in the British media has linked Manchester City with Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Hojbjerg joined Southampton in 2016 from Bayern Munich.
The midfielder had struggled for any sort of regular football whilst on the German powerhouse’s books.
But after impressing on loan with Schalke, the now 24-year-old was snapped up by the Saints for a fee of just over £13.5m.
This fee, meanwhile, has since proved something of a bargain for Southampton.
Since making the move to England, the deep-lying playmaker has notched over 130 appearances for Southampton.
And up until recently, the Dane was even captaining Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, who have come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season.

Hasenhuttl’s decision to strip Hojbjerg of his side’s captaincy, according to the Austrian, came after he told the midfielder that if he doesn’t extend his contract, which has just under a year left to run, he will not be captain.
But as Hojbjerg enters the final year of his deal, he has garnered a fair bit of interest from some top clubs.
Tottenham have been linked with the midfielder since back in May, whilst a report earlier this week claimed that Dutch giants Ajax have joined the race for the Southampton man.
And now, as mentioned above, it seems as though another of Europe’s heavy-hitters have their eye on Hojbjerg.
As per Duncan Castles, writing for the Daily Record, Pep Guardiola is ready to go head-to-head with Jose Mourinho over the signature of Hojbjerg.
And whilst the report adds that Spurs were confident that they would beat out Ajax’s offer, Manchester City’s interest is said to be of serious concern for the Lilywhites.
