Bernardo Silva scored an early goal but long-suffering Manchester City could only muster a single point in a 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton to start a full run of Boxing Day games.
City’s crisis has seen them win only once in their last thirteen games in all competitions and they are provisionally in sixth place in the table with 28 points, 11 leaders, Liverpool, which has two games less. Everton are in 15th place, five points above the relegation zone.
In the 14th minute, Jeremy Doku played a ball in behind the Toffees’ defence and Silva’s deflected shot found the far corner but Iliman Ndiaye drew Everton level when he took a touch to settle the ball, then unleashed a half-volley into the top right corner.
City looked set to retake the lead when Erling Haaland stepped up to the penalty spot in the second half after Seamus Coleman’s tackle on Savinho but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford dived correctly to safe the shot. Haaland headed home the rebound but it was chalked off for offside.

Manuel Akanji’s Man City idea deserved 3 issues today. This is what he said:
“We had a lot of chances to score goals. His goal came out of nowhere. In the second half we had penalty opportunities, we created chances but the ball didn’t need to pass.
“We played really well. Maybe you see it differently but I think we played well compared to other matches.
“That can’t happen if we almost conceded the counterattack late. Otherwise, we defended well as a team and attacked very well as a team. We have to move on, the next possibility is against Leicester.
Richard Jolly’s Some Definitive Mind at Etihad
A complicated point for Everton and well deserved. They were organized, daring and determined, combined with risk in the counterattack, and showed Sean Dyche’s football facets. But the City lacked authentic creativity or incision, let an advantage lost and lost two more points. The ignition continues.

One cut and Rico Lewis’s eyes soften, but he leans back and his shot goes comfortably over the bar. Pep Guardiola seems furious.
