ETIHAD STADIUM, MANCHESTER — Amad Diallo completed a thrilling late turnaround as Manchester United snatched derby victory from the jaws of defeat against a bereft Manchester City.
Josko Gvardiol headed Pep Guardiola’s team in front in the 36th minute but confidence did not come coursing back for the reigning champions, who have now won just one of their past 11 matches in all competitions.
However, they were minutes away from claiming bragging rights before shockingly self-destructing.
Matheus Nunes, who had played well as an improvised left-back, was on the other side of the box after an attacking corner and a blind pass from the Portuguese foreigner sent Amad. Faced with the situation, Nunes brought down the United winger and Bruno Fernandes saved the penalty.

Then, echoing their absurd Champions League collapse from 3-0 to last month’s 3-3 draw with Feyenoord, City completely collapsed. A more sensible ball over the top from Lisandro Martínez sent Amad moving between the defense and the goalkeeper. He was pushed wide by Ederson but finished superbly from a tight angle to spark some crazy scenes outside.

MORE: Why Man City may be worse than Man United right now
In a festival largely lacking in quality, it was only logical that City’s purpose would almost happen by chance.
Kevin De Bruyne under-hit a short corner to Bernardo Silva, whose return pass turned a crossing opportunity into more of a 50-50 tackle with Amad Diallo. De Bruyne got there first and the ball spun up invitingly off the United winger for Croatia defender Gvardiol to nod home his fourth goal of the season.
Taking the lead in the derby did nothing to help City’s fragile self-esteem. It is surprising to see what is actually the ghost of a team, the same players and the same equipment but with very much nothing.
Even allowing for significant injury absences, Guardiola’s men simply have to be so much better than this. They remained timid and lacking in conviction with the ball after the break, save for sporadic explosive bursts from Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden.
United were the more structurally sound team, but for the most part seriously lacked goal threat. Amorim’s resolve to remove Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford from his day-to-day squad had to be tested in the post-match before Amad had other ideas.

AMAD DIALLO GIVES MAN UNITED THE LEAD IN THE 90TH MINUTE!?pic. twitter. com/Q3I684gEDz
What a feeling. Amad Diallo, the hero, and the traveling United fans are in a urinal. And rightly so. His team probably eclipsed that anyway. City didn’t play well and still won with two minutes left. It’s hard to see where his season will end at this point. Thanks for joining us.
90 mins+2: We’re into five added minutes, but City look gone. A ghost of a team.
90 mins: GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!! Amad Diallo!!!!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE SCENES! UNITED SURE WON THE DERBY AND CITY FELL! Martinez points a ball at City’s defense, which is probably gone. He throws it to Ederson, who rushes and finishes superbly from a tight angle with the defenders running towards the line.
88 minutes: GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!! Bruno Fernandes (pen)!!!!!!!!
Let it cool as you like, placed in the middle. Overall, United deserve it.
86 minutes: PENALTY AGAINST UNITED! Nunes makes a terrible blind pass to let Amad in. Ederson pulls him away from the goal, but Nunes returns to kill him.
Josko Gvardiol Manchester City took the lead at half-time against Manchester United in a derby that did little to raise the pulse.
Both groups were pensive in the opening exchanges, with United throwing away their last two Premier League games under new manager Ruben Amorim, while Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions suffered a prolonged slump of one win in 10 games in all competitions. .
In a section largely lacking quality, it is logical that City’s goal almost came by chance.
Kevin De Bruyne fired a short corner to Bernardo Silva, whose return pass turned a cross-field chance into a 50-50 play with Amad Diallo. De Bruyne arrived first and the ball flew tantalizingly past the United winger for Croatian defender Gvardiol to score. fourth goal of the season.
85 minutes: Grealish pushes City forward, United come in and concede a corner. John Stones will be with us shortly.
84 mins: Mainoo times his run to get up and meet Martinez’s cross. The England midfielder’s header is way over.
81 minutes: Nice feet from Antony, first intervention, he puts Amad in the area towards the signature. He fails to take an effective shot, then Fernandes takes a strong touch to give City a shot on goal.
Minute 78: Corner cleared for Foden, who starts. Triple replacement for United: Hojlund, Mazraoui and De Ligt out, with Zirkzee, Antony and Yoro in what look like back-to-back swaps.
76 minutes: Foden in the United box at left back. Maguire is clear. The ball passed Haaland through Kovacic and his shot deflected behind. Grealish replaces Doku before the corner is taken.
74 minutes: Ohhh, it’s 1-1! Fernandes heads through City’s offside trap, past Ederson. . . just wide!
70 mins: Doku still trying to make things happen. He whips one across goal but Haaland can’t contort himself to get on the end of it. A message on the stadium screen suggests the Dias-Hojlund incident was checked for a penalty but the challenge was deemed “normal contact”.
69 minutes: United breaks the right. The centre also has a bit for Dalot, whose withdrawal for Fernandes meets his compatriot Silva.
68 minutes: The city is now attractive because Foden is falling. Nothing to do and De Bruyne scores one from the edge of the area. This is his last act, with the arrival of Mateo Kovacic.
65 mins: Martinez aims a teasing ball in behind Dias, who gets himself between the ball and Hojlund. The United striker wants a penalty but that’s a bold shout.
62 minutes: Excellent save from Ederson! Fernandes throws a great ball from a great angle on the left. Amad’s header is well judged and Ederson circles the post.
60 minutes: One hour in the derby. City continues to lead 1-0. Its enthusiasts try to incite a functionality that is still nervous and uncertain.
55 mins: Fernandes and De Bruyne, the two premier playmakers on display, seem to be trying to out-do each other in terms of rank nonsense. This time it’s Bruno wasting a good crossing position by blootering one out for a goal kick.
53 minutes: Fernandes scores a quick free-kick in his own half and Doku is lucky enough to run to De Ligt, who doesn’t seem at all comfortable with this arrangement. He sticks to his task and concedes a corner. Surprisingly, De Bruyne sent another terrible cross Fernandes. Es thought that the only goal of this match came from a City corner.
50 mins: Dreadful giveaway by Doku. City still completely lacking conviction on the ball. Nunes, who has stuck to left-back duties impressively, and Gvardiol hare back to extinguish the danger.
47 mins: Fernandes fizzes a lovely ball into Hojlund from the left. Again the striker produces some good hold-up play. Now some quicksilver feet from Mainoo but again a United attack breaks down because someone, Mazraoui in this instance, strays offside.
We are back. No body of workers changes. Let’s hope for a slight improvement in the overall point of the game.
De Bruyne, who made a really strange individual performance, tries a cross on the edge of the field that is far from approaching Silva and Ugarte takes care of it. Like much of the previous part, it was garbage. United are probably structurally the biggest team. City have all the confidence expected of a team with one win in 10, but they lead thanks to Gvardiol’s header.
45 min 4: almost 2-0! Foden’s shot takes a terrible deflection from Maguire and goes wide. De Bruyne in the corner. In short, in Doku, he recovers it and Martínez commits an absolute foul for the brain.
45 min+2: Keep going, André! De Bruyne takes a loose shot out of play. He limits himself to attacking him in the area. United try to play from the goal kick and Onana decides to ask Haaland to send him with the ball into his net in a pile.
45 min+1: The table goes up. We still have 4 more minutes of this filth party before we can all have a snack.
41 mins: Both the silly boys are booked. Bruno puts in a nice ball, De Ligt gets there first and Ederson scrambles behind for a United corner… which fails to get past De Bruyne at the near post.
39 minutes: Anthony Taylor and his video assistants have some shenanigans to sort out. Dias fouled Hojlund. Walker continues the argument, they confront each other and Walker then throws himself to the ground. It probably wouldn’t be a red card. It’s just embarrassing.
37 minutes: GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!! Josko Gvardiol!
City’s first blood in the derby. It was a disjointed goal while De Bruyne did not cook up a small corner. His attempt to cross a return pass from Silva turned into a 50-50 with Amad. The ball spins temptingly and Gvardiol finishes off with ease with a header.

36 minutes: Doku cuts off and sees a blocked attempt behind. Hojlund and Haaland are up to mischief again. . .
35 minutes: United have had no news so far. Amad sees a shot blocked. Now City are going to break up and Fernandes is getting rid of his compatriot Silva. He did very well to avoid a warning.
32 minutes: Gvardiol carelessly leaves the ball in the loose zone and it’s one of those transitions City are desperate to avoid. However, United were unable to assert themselves and the attack ended with a shot from Ugarte that had as much chance of disturbing Asda on the wing as Ederson’s goal.
31 minutes: I’m not going to lie, it’s a tough watch.
26 mins: Oh, Amad should really be holding his run better there. The United winger is offside, doesn’t know it and misses the one-on-one anyway. Not the best.
23 minutes: Foden again, this time with a deflected shot. He’s going to take the corner. Hojlund cares a lot about Haaland. One to look at. Dias rises near the post in front of Maguire, but it is necessarily a clearance.
21 minutes: City replace the angle of the attack, however. Again, this is Doku on the backside left. Martinez driven Haaland away from the centre before Foden controlled his chest and sent a wide volley from about 25 yards. It n’t very far and I’m not certain Onana able to do it.
21 – Phil Foden’s 21st minute shot for the first try in this match, the longest wait on record (since 2006-07) for a first shot in a Premier League Manchester derby. Cagey. #MCIMUN
20 minutes: Doku seems to be in the middle and Maguire makes an important block while looking for Haaland. Now United have the ball in City’s territory. They can’t make it count, but at least avoid a counterattack.
19 minutes: Doku vs. Mazraoui pt. we do it. Victory for the defender on this occasion.
17 minutes: City’s press hasn’t had much strength yet. United spit the ball in their own half and Doku and Haaland almost made them pay.
15 mins: Doku gets a drag-back out of his box of tricks to nutmeg Mazraoui. This is instantly bad news for Gvardiol, who gets booted by the frustrated Morocco defender. From the free-kick, Doku scoots down the left ut nothing comes from the cross.
13 mins: United will be forced to make an early substitution due to the way things are looking. Mount sat on the grass and is now leaving. It’s horrible, he was very lucky. Kobbie Mainoo is an offer and Bruno Fernandes will sign up for the best three.
11 minutes: Amad enters the box, Gvardiol closes the door on everyone’s favourite, the flag of offside is overdue. A moment of unity for all fans on this day of enmity.
10 minutes: A great pass to Dalot is another ploy that has been seen many times before. He evaluates Walker before setting up a combined cross for a goal shot.
9 mins: Good, strong hold-up play from Hojlund. Amad tries to pick out Fernandes’ run through the middle but Walker intercepts. That might have just been a pretty good glance at the United blueprint here.
7 mins: Calm United possession in the City half before they’re forced back to Onana. Understandably quite pensive stuff from both teams so far.
6 minutes: It looked like a dragged pass from De Ligt taking United into midfield. Dalot center and Ederson collection.
5 minutes: Doku in the middle of an old 50-50 derby. The home crowd put City ahead and Martínez headed a De Bruyne cross from behind. United took over the corner without problems.
3 minutes: If initial exchanges are to be believed, Doku and Mazraoui will know each other very well. The City winger thinks he has beaten his man, but the linesman says he has run out of ground.
Local lad Phil Foden gets the 195th Manchester derby underway.
2 minutes before kick-off: City fans unveil a huge banner in honor of manager Pep Guardiola, who then gives Rubén Amorim a warm hug and we’re almost ready to leave. Which Manchester team is the worst right now? We’re about to locate it. . .
pic. twitter. com/th05KDnqaN
6 minutes before kick-off: City went old school and turned off the stadium sound system, leaving fans to provide the pre-match soundtrack. Oh wait, we already have the lights out. Striking.
20 mins before kickoff: In his own interview with Sky, Pep Guardiola has explained Matheus Nunes will fill in as an emergency left-back. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford would probably have fancied a dart at him.
50 minutes before kick-off: United manager Rubén Amorim spoke to Sky Sports about the decision to leave Rashford and Garnacho out of the matchday squad. There are no injuries or disciplinary issues to speak of, he just didn’t have any. Great call.
Selection. We reviewed to compare everything: training, performance, in-game performance, commitment to teammates, promotion of teammates. Everything is at stake when we analyze and review players, so this is my selection. Simple.
I don’t need to send a message. It’s just an assessment and they know it. The players are very intelligent. Everyone understands my decision. I have to choose. It is simply an undeniable selection.
The context is difficult. We have to win games and we have a difficult situation. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put on your clothes to go the game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I have to decide. I have a lot of players to choose.
1 hour and 10 minutes before kick-off: the United team coincides with the eleven announced last night. It’s a circumspect 3-4-3 on paper, with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot in a position to line up as wingers. Neither Marcus Rashford nor Alejandro Garnacho are in Ruben Amorim’s squad for the day, which is a merciless blow to their side’s goalscoring risk against what has been a shaky City defence of late.
?TEAM NEWS ?In the corner. . . ?#MUFC || #MCIMUN
1 hr 15 mins before kickoff: The teams are in but we’ll have to wait to see how City shape up on the field. Walker, Dias and Gvardiol are the three fully fully fit senior defenders, although John Stones is a surprise inclusion on the bench alongside former West Ham youngster Divin Mubama . There are then six midfielders, one of whom will have to do a left-back impression at some stage, and Erling Haaland. Bernardo Silva filled in there briefly during City’s 2022/23 treble-winning season, while Guardiola mentioned playing Matheus Nunes there in his press conference. I thought that was a joke. It might not have been.

1 hr 35 mins before kickoff: Confirmed team news will be with us in about 20 minutes. What Pep Guardiola decides to do with his defence is probably the main source of intrigue. Manuel Akanji looks set to remain sidelined alongside John Stones and Nathan Ake, Rico Lewis is suspended and Kyle Walker is enduring an implausibly wretched run of personal form. There could be a start for youth-team gradual Jahmai Simpson-Pusey at centre-back, or Guardiola could opt to pair Josko Gvardiol with Ruben Dias in the heart of defence and get creative with his interpretation of the left-back position.
2 hours before kickoff: The 195th Manchester derby takes place today, and it’s been quite some time since both teams entered the game in disarray. Who comes out on top?
This Premier League match will kick off in Manchester, United Kingdom, at 4:30 p. m. time.
Here’s what it was like in some of the major territories:
Guardiola faces a defensive crisis due to this adjustment, compounded by the loss of Manuel Akanji, who has been out with a pelvic injury.
John Stones made a wonderful return to the bench but Nathan Ake is still out and Rico Lewis is suspended, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are starting to form a back-up trio and it looks like either Bernardo Silva or Matheus Nunes will step in. to help. in the left rear area.
Rodri and Oscar Bobb remain long-term absentees, but Mateo Kovacic is back among the replacements and Phil Foden – scorer of two goals in this fixture last season – is back after a bout of bronchitis.
Man City lineup (3-2-4-1, right to left): Ederson (GK) — Walker, Dias, Gvardiol — Gundogan, Silva — Foden, De Bruyne, Nunes, Doku — Haaland

Amorim has shown that Jonny Evans is back in training at full capacity, having been sidelined since his first game against Ipswich Town last month.
Rasmus Hojlund leads the way after scoring twice off the bench against Viktoria Plzen this week, while Mason Mount’s good looks saw him start as a support forward.
