Man United maguire for ‘assault’ on police

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will appear before a Greek prosecutor on Saturday to face fees for assaulting police on Mykonos Island, with his lawyer promising a quick resolution.

“Everything is fine. Maguire denies the charges. If all goes well, we will be finished (today),” Constantinos Darivas told the Greek sports gazzetta.gr.

Darivas added that England’s central defender is in “good shape” despite spending two nights in detention since his arrest Thursday night.

Maguire will be taken as a prosecutor at noon.

The case is known on the island of Syros, the administrative center of the organization of the Cycladic islands that Mykonos.

The 80 million pound (88 million euro) defender arrested Friday morning after what Greek police described as an “altercation” between two teams of British tourists in Mykonos.

A statement from Greek police on Friday that three men over the age of 27, 28 and 29 had been arrested in Mykonos.

Greek state firm ANA knew suspects as Maguire, his brother and a friend.

Police said a police officer attacked at the scene and at one point a fight broke out at the local police station where the three men “vigorously resisted (arrest), pushing and beating three cops.”

Then one of the suspects tried to bribe the officials to monitor the incident, police said.

The suspects are charged with assault, resisting arrest, insulting and verbally threatening the officers who arrested them and attempting to bribe them, police said.

Four Mykonos officers suffered minor injuries in the accident, the government said.

Mykonos is with sports stars and celebrities for its nightlife and beaches.

United said in a letter Friday that they were “aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night.”

“Contacts have been made with Harry and he is cooperating with the Greek authorities.

“At this time we will not comment,” the club added.
