“I would say today is more relief, to be honest, and fatigue, ” said Mata. “I think the team is quite physically tired, and you can see in the game, it wasn’t the most productive of the games. But at this level of the season, with so many games [we], so many months, it’s very important to win games as we did today, and we’re making it. We arrived in Germany with the aim of staying for a while, and we look forward to continuing and winning this tournament.
The Reds have had an additional day off, but Sevilla is entering this as a team. They have won seven of their last 8 matches in all competitions and, perhaps even more impressively, have played a fair defense, allowing only one purpose in this sequence.
Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui said before the match that, while his team respects the culture of his opponents, he does not back down one iota.
“We’re focusing on the next game, as opposed to a more sensitive historical team, one of the most productive in the history of the game that is in a wonderful way,” Lopetegui said this week. “We want to think about ourselves, how we’re going to deal with it, and how we’re going to use our strengths. He’s a tough opponent who’s going to worry us and ask us a lot. It will be an equivalent match and either the sides will push each other to the limit. We entered the game ready, aiming at the paintings to be made.
