NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Manchester United are set to sign Manuel Ugarte on a permanent deal with Paris Saint-Germain, with the clubs reaching a €60m (£51m) transfer deal.
Ugarte is set to move to Old Trafford this summer and the midfielder reportedly agreed terms in July.
United made it clear earlier this month that they would not meet PSG’s initial demands of €70m for the Uruguay international, but the two clubs have remained in talks to reach an agreement.
A permanent move this summer and a loan deal that would come with the legal responsibility to buy next year have been discussed.
Le Parisien now reports that a deal is close to being closed that will allow Ugarte to sign for United on a permanent basis this summer.
United will pay £51m for the 23-year-old, a sum very close to the amount PSG parted with last summer to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.
Although some main points still need to be finalized, the measure will be finalized in the coming days.
After arriving in Paris last year, Ugarte saw his first-team opportunities diminish as the 2023-24 season progressed.
Joao Neves’ arrival from Benfica has dropped him down the pecking order, with PSG boss Luis Enrique leaving him out of his squad for the season opener against Le Harve on Friday night.
United signed four signings this summer with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joining the club, but a midfield addition has also been a good priority in midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro in midfield in the season-opening match against Fulham last Friday, but characteristics in the rest of the midfield are lacking.
Scott McTominay is wanted via Napoli and United are willing to let Christian Eriksen go for £5million before the move window closes at the end of the month.
