NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Jason Wilcox has reportedly resigned from Southampton and will join Manchester United as manager with the furious Saints.
Wilcox, who was Manchester City’s academy director in the past, is expected to be a key component of United’s new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
He will now work under new sporting director Dan Ashworth, who swapped Newcastle for Old Trafford as INEOS continues to make changes.
Wilcox was running for Southampton’s director of football but made the decision to sign for the Red Devils in another role, according to reports.
He also reported that the south coast club were angry with United for the timing of their attack on Wilcox and that the two sides had one major disagreement.
Southampton, who have recently been playing for the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League, have refused to accept United’s compensation offer.
Saints Wilcox are worth far more than what United are offering, while the Red Devils consider it “unrealistic” for Southampton to expect a higher sum.
United are understood to have complied with the release clause in Wilcox’s contract, but Southampton dispute the validity of the clause.
Meanwhile, United’s minority shareholders, who have taken over operations, showed the appointment of Omar Berrada as the club’s general manager in January.
Rio Ferdinand has argued that United’s decision to appoint Berrada as their new general manager is “the best signing of January”.
